But I think it's plain as day that he believes that the end would justify the means when the stakes are this high. You don't even disagree with that - you just think that every other politician would do the same so you want to look the other way because you like him.

Right now i wouldn't bet even money that they'll find hard evidence of his complicity with russia. But I'd bet the farm that if he had the opportunity to while keeping his hands clean that he'd have no reservations of trading favors with foreign interests to win the election.
