So, yeah, I definitely see some Kissinger in Trump.
Related to operation condor, but Kissinger was behind the overthrow of a democratically elected leader in Chile and installing of Pinochet.

He's a bigger war criminal than Assad and it shouldn't ever be a brag to be compared to him. And associating with him now is abhorrent. (HRC)

Erdogan won the vote? Lol, those changes happen in 2019, which gives us time for Trump to invade turkey.

The entire world has lost its mind. We're in for a wild ride.

Because angry brats like you voted for Trump.

Lol, erdogan is an islamist. If what has happened in Turkey doesn't alarm you, you are a fool.

It's another example of why Islam and politics just doesn't mix. But, Islam is a religion of peace, right?

We shall see. I feel bad for the Turks, the end of their country as they know it is coming.

It does alarm me because I'm not a fascist.

Islamist? Like King Salman in Saudi Arabia? Or Sheik Sabah IV Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of Kuwait? Or Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Qatar? Or King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in Bahrain?

Do you think being an Islamist means Trump is invading?

Trump is a fascist and loves Erdogan. He hired a guy on Erdogan's payroll to be his national security advisor ffs.

Democrats like Obama tirelessly promote a Trump narrative laser focused on the racism because to include the populist elements responsible for Trump's electoral success would implicate them as the corporatists they are. Let's deal with reality instead of being partisan to a fault. Trump's manipulation was multi-dimensional. People in the Midwest who voted for Bernie in the primary and Trump in the main are not hardcore racists. They are people who have been cruelly left behind by the policies enacted by both parties.

And Erdogan is popular in Turkey, where like in America there is way too much ethno-nationalism. I feel sorry for the Kurds in and out of Turkey along with any decent people opposed to fascism.

I think this is because people had the wrong idea that your average rich guy at a country club is smart.

You meant to say you feel bad for any non-muslims in Turkey.

Religion of peace. Keep repeating it.

Kurds are mostly Muslim. The 4 million people of the most democratic area with the greatest protections for freedom of religion and women's rights in the region and perhaps in the world are primarily Muslims.

Erdogan is a popular fascist. Islamists like the leaders of the gulf states are not popular leaders, were not elected and most of the freedom loving Islamic people inside their kingdoms aren't citizens.

I feel quite sick over Turkey. It was so likely that Turkey wasn't going to stand still politically. It was either going to take the final step towards merging with the West or move some other way. We (the west) did this to a huge number of moderate (secular and Muslim) people who wanted to be our friends and allies on an equal basis.

They are merging with the West. Brexit, Trump, Le Pen, Erdogan, Putin. That's the merger. Well, not a merger as much as like minded but separated ethnonationalism.

How does this dude manage to keep topping his own ignorance?

That's another way of looking at it I suppose.

Yes it's true that even if the EU had pushed hard for Turkey as an equal partner, as it should have done, that there would still be problems in the EU. Although the Islamophobia is a common part, they are mostly very different problems.

Both of you are crazy if you don't see death and destruction coming to Turkey.

Lol at all of the above statements. Turkey is about to turn into another slum and you guys are talking about how free they are.

Hahahah. Wow.
04-16-2017 , 08:19 PM
No one said anything about how free they are. What are you talking about? Erdogan being popular doesn't mean they are a free society anymore than Trump, Putin or Dutarte being popular means they aren't fascists.

Oh yeah, Trump also loves el-Sisi, the guy in Egypt who murdered 817 protestors. You'd like to open fire on a crowd of protesters huh wil?

I'm pretty sure he thinks Erdogan just got elected and is making his first appearance. I can't think of anything else that makes sense.

There's still hope but it's looking bleak for now. The EU and NATO need Turkey so enough of a semblance of good relations may remain to allow something good to be rekindled in the future. Too much depends on how Erdogan & co see Turkey's role but they may well also be keen on keeping the links.

Turkey has spent a lot (a lot) longer as a secular country - despite being dominated by Muslims demographically - than as a non-secular one.

To get a little more on-topic: Republicans might have a Trump recruiting problem for the 2018 midterms

Perhaps weary of Trump's incredible and record-breaking unpopularity for a new president, some Republicans are deciding to sit out rather than challenge incumbent Democrats in the many states they face uphill Senate battles in for 2018:

Quote:
In Pennsylvania, four-term Rep. Patrick Meehan (R) was considering, then declined, to challenge Sen. Bob Casey. Meehan would have been a bigger name than the two state lawmakers and one borough councilman who have jumped in so far to try to challenge Casey.

...
In Wisconsin, a state Trump won by less than a percentage point, leading potential challenger Rep. Sean P. Duffy (R) said he won't run against Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D). “This is not the right time to run for Senate,” he said in a statement, pointing to his eight kids. A couple of state lawmakers, a teacher, a Marine veteran and a businessman are all considering running, which could create a messy primary.

Turkey wasn't so hot before Erdogan. The military routinely had coups and imprisoned a ton of people, curtailed freedoms, etc. That's part of the reason why Erdogan was able to come into power initially, people were tired of the military.

Tourism to USA from other countries has dropped around the world since Trump took office

Quote:
Demand for flights to the United States has fallen in nearly every country since January, *according to Hopper, a travel-booking app that analyzes more than 10 billion daily airfare price quotes to derive its data. Searches for U.S. flights from China and Iraq have dropped 40 percent since Trump’s inauguration, while demand in Ireland and New Zealand is down about 35 percent. (One exception: Russia, where searches for flights to the United States have surged 60 percent since January.)

The result could be an estimated 4.3 million fewer people coming to the United States this year, resulting in $7.4 billion in lost revenue, according to Tourism Economics, a Philadelphia-based analytics firm. Next year, the fallout is expected to be even larger, with 6.3 million fewer tourists and $10.8 billion in losses. Miami is expected to be hit hardest, followed by San Francisco and New York, the firm said.
