If one leading expert is to be believed, the sharp rise in the number of rapes in this over the last 5 years is largely attributable to a group of unemployed and alienated immigrants. The number of rape charges per capita in Malmö is 5 – 6 times that of Copenhagen, Denmark. Copenhagen is a larger city, but the percentage of immigrants is much lower. This is just a lie. I am in a heavily immigrant neighborhood in a big European city right now, while I write this, and I am far, far safer than I am in the suburbs of most big US cities.

I don't think too many people are actually anti-immigration, so much as pro selective immigration. Low birthrates make immigration a necessity in the west.

However, given the large welfare state in pretty much every developed nation, large swaths of uneducated, low skilled immigrants with low earning potential will necessarily be net beneficiaries rather than contributors.

Even highly skilled migrants with moderately high earning potential can be net detriments on the economy if they can bring large numbers of dependants like elderly parents, in-laws and aunts/uncles.

1st, lol at thinking economists, think tanks or academics can predict outcomes of changes of this magnitude.

Second, it has nothing to do with salary, but rather tax dollars and entitlements.
A low skilled couple with a combined income potential of say 46k will pay MAX 4k in taxes. All it takes is one knee replacement to wipe out a decade and a half of contribution, and that is assuming it will be the only entitlement they receive which is obviously absurd.

As a member of the moderately high bracket, I have no interest in subsidizing foreign transfer payments.

Scrap the welfare state and the entitlements that come with it, and I will totally get behind open boarders. Not only would it have no cost to me, it would encourage only the best, brightest and most ambitious since people would know they can not expect anything but what they create

But until that day, I want only the best immigrants to come in.
