Okay, I'll knock of the cheerleader picks contingent that we have a drinking game thread, as long as it's fun!

I think you're being disingenuous here. You've already made it clear that you are modding with a PC bias. So you've ensured that one group dominates. I'm not terribly bothered by it, but please don't pretend otherwise.

As I said in the previous post

There's no sides being taken apart from the PC bias.
There's no attempt to hide it even if I don't mention it in very single post. I don't believe that being PC stops non-liberals from making their case. Making arguments the focus only helps one group if they have the better arguments.

is majik a mod here now? If not, how/why is he editing thread titles?
03-08-2017 , 06:32 PM
?
03-08-2017 , 06:34 PM
NM... looks like he just edited the title of his post, not the thread as a whole ... But subsequent responses are now changed to his goofy redirect of what the thread is about.

Is that allowed?
03-08-2017 , 06:37 PM
Phew! You had me worried he was a real majikian for a moment there

look at the end of the "dear trump supporters" thread... I mean, if that's allowed, we all could have a lot of fun with it. I'm game.
03-08-2017 , 08:25 PM
Editing thread titles by post is great again for a hot minute.

I'm surprised this kind of attack on a poster is allowed. I thought we were supposed to focus on arguments

he is focusing on the argument of Einberts spamming. How come you are not calling out Einbert for calling people racist?
03-09-2017 , 11:30 AM
If you don't want to be called racist maybe you shouldn't post racist crap:

The problem with Einberts posts/spams is that they don't breathe. This is why most people just skip them. He should post one spam....Breathe..let people respond...breathe...and then maybe post another. Until then this junk is nothing more than forum graffiti and it should be removed.

Sounds like your SAFE SPACE is being violated. Sad!

Moderators,

I notice that a number of posts you've deleted today in the Trump thread have been the same kinds of posts (in some cases verbatim repeats) you've deleted before. It seems that your current moderation approach of "delete no content posts and do nothing else" is doing nothing to dissuade posters from violating the rules of content threads, and is contributing to them being cesspools of the same dumb, petty back-and-forths we see in !!! threads.
03-09-2017 , 03:29 PM
It's almost as if we told them, over and over that it was the posters themselves that was the issue!?!

Thank you for your post.

Moderation of any political forum is a significant challenge. This is true on the several political forums here on 2+2 and elsewhere. Moderation is guided by the overall goals of the forum.

In Content threads, we aim to encourage and maintain a healthy and vigorous discussion of the thread's topic. Our methods of doing so include deleting posts, giving warnings, and giving timeouts (more severe 2+2 bans would only be issued in very rare cases or when timeouts are not obeyed).

Maybe I am wrong, but it seems to me that over the few short weeks that I have joined the moderation team that the overall quality of Content threads has improved (I am taking no credit, mind you). Numerous posts have been removed, several warnings have been issued, and more than a few timeouts have been issued. And, of course, a highly tendentious discussion was shut down.

I can personally attest that the current moderation team does not have a "delete no-content posts and do nothing else" policy. While we strive for light moderation, we understand that sanctions may be required (ranging from light to severe) to achieve the goals of the forum.

If anyone sees any post that they believe violates a forum rule (in letter or in spirit), they should report the post or bring it to the attention of the moderators in some other way. Every "bad post" report is given full consideration.

It depends on if you're reading them before or after moderators get to them. After you guys go and clean up a thread, it's more readable, but the problem is that for anyone reading the thread before that takes place it's still a garbage pile full of bad no-content posts. And the problem persists over time because simple deletions (which is the most frequent result I've seen, even to repeat offenders) do nothing to dissuade people from continuing to post in a similar manner in the future and continuing to disrupt threads. The recent Trump deletions hit people who have had posts deleted for such behavior many times before yet have somehow never received timeouts or other sanctions (searching for "timeout" in that thread, I see that only wil and ymmv have ever received them - that may not be an exhaustive search but the info in this post seems to back that up).

And why shouldn't they continue making no-content posts when you give them no reason not to?

Chez is noticeably less terrible now that you're on board. Having someone looking over his shoulder is at least a partial solution.

Thanks again for another thoughtful post.

Chezlaw and I have on-going discussions on this subject. All I can say at this point is to promise you that we will not be bashful in issuing warnings and timeouts if and when the need arises.

By the way, in case anyone is interested, the litany of Final Warnings, Timeouts, and Bans issued in the forum since the advent of the current incarnation of this forum can be found in the stickied Forum Rules thread.

You raise a very good point about before and after the cleanup, we are responding to reported posts as soon as we can to try to nip it in the bud. We are also working to dissuade people from LC posts in the Content threads as well as encouraging them to report posts rather than respond in the thread. It's not just the timeouts and warnings as per the list that whosnest posted, we are also talking to people via PMs.

I appreciate the change in culture is taking time, which is frustrating, but we are totally committed to making the Content threads as good for discussing politics as we possibly can.

I guess it's always been allowed in all forums. Like with everything else if it becomes a problem then we will consider intervening.

It was just about a point about the moderation which is being treated as !!! in this thread. Other !!!posts or non-moderation related posts are being deleted and that will include posts that are judged as an excuse to attack a poster (other than the mods)
03-09-2017 , 10:23 PM
Remember when we could start threads and disallow posters from participating, and then I ruined it by like disallowing Fly/LK/Keeeeeeeeeeed from participating in one where I talked a bunch of **** about them and we watched them cry and ***** in the moderation thread about it? Good times were had by all IMO.

"Ruined it" is pretty extreme, as TBH WTF were we thinking with that rule anyway?! Think that was a gem of JJShabado's era but could be mistaken.

I think this is a good idea, and at least provides some semblance of accountability for the moderators. That said, the whole PC thing is incredibly vague. What is and isn't PC will change over time, and people are banned for violating PC rule. Incredibly vague, not a good rule. Low energy.
