Always pissed me off when my apt complex wouldn't open the pool until Memorial day and closed it right after labor Day. It's the south, we missed out on a couple months of swimming weather because the old lady running the place thought the pool was a PITA.

+1, although grilling season should have started weeks ago. I hate this modern hand-wringing over people not recognizing the "true meaning" of various holidays. Trolly goes not give a flying **** if you spend the day remembering veterans or servicemen who died or if you just break out the grill and some beers and have a nice day off.

It is spring bank holiday weekend here. You guys do your own thing as normal. Weirdly, I learned, you have Memorial Day in May but have Veterans Day on Remembrance Day. I am curious why you do it backwards like that, but obv not curious enough to go google the answer up.

Weather is really awesome today, its hit 18 deg and it is sunny with only a few clouds, and should be fine all weekend though may shower tomorrow. Shame I cant do BBQ tonight but imma have a badass curry instead so it is decent trade off.

We got both... Memorial Day which is the symbolic start of summer (and BBQ season, although we BBQ year round here in Cali)... and Veterans Day in November.

Personally, I extend Memorial Day to commorate all victims of war, not just those in uniform. And I remember that the Haymarket Myrters were hung on 1887-11-11, before it was Remembrance Day.

Britain has a huge number of Pakistani and Indian immigrants so we have awesome traditional meets west fusion dishes which are so good they then rebounded back to those countries.

The idea of "British food" being bland hasnt been true for 50+ years since the end of post war rationing with the curry wave, the Mediterranean wave and then the Asian food wave pretty much killing the stereotype.
