As an atheist I used to scoff at the idiocy of religious belief. Now I am not so sure. I am not positive yet that religion is a "good" thing or a "bad" thing, but I question if atheism is good for the masses.
My views have changed because I simply did not like what I was seeing, the results were.... not exactly what I wanted. I hoped for everyone to be Richard Dawkin-ish, but we wound up with a bunch of arrogant douchebags (like myself).
I've come to realize how important family and the family unit really is. Religion seems to provide quite a lot of that, even though it brings a lot of baggage with it.
Furthermore, I think religion brings a sense of community and fills social gaps I think need to be addressed.
Again, I am unsure where I stand, overall, on this topic. What I do know is that I'm much more willing to discuss the benefits of religion instead of just laughing at it and calling religious people morons.
