Everyone has them, few openly admit it. This is where the honest and brave posters congregate and admit their prejudices.

Note that the only way to mitigate their effects is to be self aware and recognize what lies within.

I'll start.

1. Heavily tattooed / pierced people. At first glance, I have a hard time not assuming these people are poor parents. Affects me when working with this population.

2. I've got real ethnocentric tendencies when it comes to the expected role of women in certain traditional (Middle Eastern, primarily) cultures.

Seems like a dangerous idea in this forum but OK, I hope I can learn something about myself that will help me change these thoughts/reactions that have no foundation in fact or experience:

1. Beggars: Automatic response is annoyance and disgust without thinking why they are in that predicament or empathy toward their plight.

2. People who dress gangsta: reaction is to feel less safe, and in general more wary of them than others dressed more normally ("normally" in my mind which obviously is slanted in and of itself...ldo, 46 yo white male haha).

I am sure I have more but these are the two that are the clearest to me and where the reaction is automatic.

Another one: Auto assuming that girls with the "valley girl" accent are dumb.

Mostly is a negative attitude about Dids. I saw him post pics of himself and felt that he'd be self conscious about his weight and appearance, hence the repeated digs.

Was that the "Shouldn't piss me off..." thread? I could see myself saying that. Yeah, I've got some preconceived notions about heavy people which shouldn't be generalized. I can own that.

Alright LK, put yourself out there. Name one or two which apply to you.

Southern white stereotypes are a bias I guard against.

Figures Anias would use this thread to target people and gossip. I am happy having a reasonable bias against that kind of behavior.

I'm specifically interested to see if some of our more outspoken warriors might step up; Wookie, LowKey, Gizmo, FlyWf, Dids, I'm looking at you.

I'm biased against idiots who lack self-awareness. Sorry that applies to you, spank.

Alright, LK, I know owning your prejudices publicly is scary. Perhaps you should start by being general.

Do you know what your prejudices are as they relate to groups of people? That's just a yes or no question and doesn't leave you vulnerable at all.

You behave like a vulgar denigrator in a repetitious pattern. This behavior is the future of being on a reasonable receiving end of human bias because the internet is giving humanity ample information to be aware of it and become knowledgable. The good news is we ( you) always have a choice to stop.

I don't like being surrounded entirely by white people in public places. Makes me feel uncomfortable.

I have a prejudice against people that watch alot of reality shows. I peg them as dumb very quickly. Same with religious people.

I also have a prejudice against people not making fun of L.K assuming they cant possibly be funny since he provides so many freebies.

I am pretty prejudiced against cat people tbh.

Though, **** hunters. And people who wear camo.

I'm pretty biased against anyone who doesn't like pets, actually. I assume they're mean-spirited.
