For Our Canadian Citizens on TwoPlusTwo For Our Canadian Citizens on TwoPlusTwo

I've wondered about this and I could definitely be wrong but it seems like Posters from Canada that post in the politics forum are pretty invested in the outcomes of US elections. I mean it seems to matter a lot to at least several of the posters from Canada, much more than Canadian elections do to US citizens. I get that folks in the USA tend to be more parochial than citizens from other countries. However, compared to say citizens of the UK that post here, Canadian citizens seem to be far more invested IE the outcome matters a lot more. Doesn't seem like US relations with Canada change that much like ever regardless of who is the POTUS or what party controls Congress. Just my impression, could be wrong.

I'm Canadian. Apart from the US being our largest trading partner, the POTUS is quite literally the emperor of the world so naturally, people around the world cared deeply about the election.

Possibly (probably) true.

Trump has Canadians far more concerned than any other recent president. It sounds like you're saying that our concern isn't justified. I'm not going to try to forecast what changes could be in store for us because I don't know and I haven't researched it. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if our experts weren't confident in trying to predict Trump's moves. We loved Obama, Trudeau and him seemed like bffs for a little while there. To go from Obama to Trump is...painful for a lot of us.

The big picture answer to the question you didn't ask is that the US is Canada's big brother, of course Canadian political junkies are going to be invested in what happens south of the border. Most of my co-workers/friends/family dgaf about Trump or the election, so I wouldn't base the views of Canadians as a whole on the few who post on 2+2.

A thread about Canadians (and Canada) on Trump sounds good to me, I just wish the OP had something interesting to say, or ask, or discuss.

A good portion of the media was telling people that Trump is literally Hitler and can't be trusted with the nuclear codes and he could mean the end of civilization as we know it.

Tends to get people's attention when they're right across the border. Maybe you don't care as much when you're in Chile or Bora Bora.

That likely played a part, but believing it's mainly the media's fault takes away Canadian's agency, and ability, to recognize a dishonest/amoral person when we see one.

How do you know it's not true (which is what you're implying)?
