Now I can more or less agree with you and still say you are generally wrong. there is no mild punishment or social pressure on Fly. The problem with P is Fly's behavior is approved of by the local kids and supported by the moderation. Maybe that's not a problem with P at all, some obviously think it's a good thing and helps make P so marvelous.

Meaningless temp bans for his behavior are like being scolded by a winking policeman. Culture matters and the current culture doesn't just tolerate the Fly persona, it encourages it and uses it.

Operant conditioning sculpts behavior. It's applied everyday with the raising of our children, with our penal system, at work, school, basically everywhere. Confounding variables abound for 3 Strike laws, such as addiction and drug laws.

Of course. It works for the vast majority of people. However, telling someone "if you do x one more time, y will happen" is not operant conditioning.

Where you have someone whose personality can be described as an outlier, it doesn't work in the normal manner. Most of us, by adulthood, have figured out that we aren't supposed to pick our nose in public.

Escalating bans and meaningful warnings are desired, but for the love of God don't take away mod status after threatening PMs and repeated antisocial behavior. That's history's greatest fiasco.
