If we could get some of the WWE guys to play soccer, they'd be great at faking injuries.

It's actually true. I played soccer as a kid, even made all stars. Went to Denmark for one year and could not hang. Even the nerdy kids could dribble circles around me. But I KILLED ALL OF THEM AT BASKETBALL!

Euros are just better at soccer and US is just better at the good sports. It's just genetics, what can you do?

Not sure you can take basketball players' heights and assume they'd have a huge advantage in football, even in goalkeeping. I think the average height of a Premiership 'keeper is around the 6'3 mark. And I can't find a breakdown I once read, but it's shorter in Spain and (I think but pretty unsure) slightly more in Germany, but it's fairly consistent within the 6ft to 6'4 kind of range. The problem with being 6'9 is that while you can dominate in set pieces (either claiming crosses or covering the top corners for shots) you're quite disadvantaged in how quickly you can get down to low shots. I'd guess with how much the rest of the world plays and the pool it selects from that the types of player you find in the Euro leagues are approaching optimal body types. And you don't tend to get freakishly tall players like in volleyball, where height seems to be almost the only thing that matters.

Well labron might be too tall sure. But nba guards in the 6'2" to 6'5" range who basically all have elite lateral quickness would probably be good goalies as well as good field players.

Although something called a costell pantilimon is basically the same size as labron and plays in the premire league. Which I think is like the big leagues in soccer?

Dude, it's in the name...
04-11-2016 , 05:19 PM
Well it's all very confusing. Major league soccer SOUNDS like it would be, you know, a MAJOR league. But apparently its like the equivalent of a low A minor league baseball league. And then there is the delegation in the European leagues where a team can be in the major leagues one year and then be a rec team for middle aged soccerers the next year? ITS ALL VERY CONFUSING

Relegation. They should start doing relegation with NFL teams here.

No doubt some basketball players are going to have the build/abilities to have been footballers. No doubt a bunch of footballers could've played bastketball.

He's a reserve for a lower end Premier League team in Watford. Basically a team that has spent most of recent years a step below Premier and would be decent odds to go down next year. But yeah, relatively speaking that's still a good level of pro and being a 'keeper is tough since you're often signed to be back up which usually means almost never playing. He's an exception at his height too.

I'm not sure "Go back to Russia" is the appropriate way to communicate your favouring of Socialist run American pro-sports leagues, where this year's bad teams get favourable draft positions so as to equalise the playing pool, over European football leagues, where, if you suck this year, you'll have to play 2nd division for at least one year and will only be able to come back by merit, not rules that favour those who suck.

Very exciting run for US soccer at the Copa America! After a 2-1 victory over Ecuador and a close 0-4 loss to Argentina, the US managed to claim 4th place after a 0-1 loss to Colombia. I'm sure everyone at work will be talking about it nonstop on Monday.

Bump for USA#29 losing to a real soccering nation once again. Lost by a single point at home against Mexico. Disgraceful!

IS IT NEXT CYCLE YET??????
11-16-2016 , 11:38 PM
hahahahahaha so the USA#33 lost by four points to COSTA RICA in what was apparently an important match yesterday. 4 to zero. Or as soccer ******s call it, 4 to nil.

Ahahahahahhahahahaha. WILL BE BETTER NEXT CYCLE IMO.

So apparently this loss and the loss to Mexico is like the start of World Cup qualifying. There is something called the hexagon? Anyway, the US has now disastrously lost its first two games in the hexagon, which means that we probably won't have to hear too much about lol soccer two years from now when all the real soccering nations will get together in Russia!
