So what do the knowledgeable folks of twoplustwo think, is Fidel Castro good or bad?
Bad. Just because someone has good intentions does not mean they are good leaders. The fact that Cuba is about 30-40 years behind the rest of the world in many industries is not a good thing.
He had good intentions to protect the Cuban people from American ownership, but his socialist ideals didn't end up helping the Cuban people in the long run.
What good is studying and getting degrees, if the best profession and native Cuban can hope for money wise is being a bartender to collect tips from foreigners.
Just take a trip to Cuba yourself and walk around Havannah and talk to people about what they do for a living.
