I'm leaning on people in the Mod Forum about getting behind http://itsonus.org/.

I think the forum's far more tone deaf on women's issues than racism frankly.

Are people just being knowingly overdramatic, or do they not understand how this isn't much of a risk in a 1st world nation?
10-01-2014 , 12:41 PM
You should tell us, in your whiniest voice possible, just how dramatic we all are being ITT.

If that Dallas guy survives, they should throw him in prison. No way in hell he didn't know he had the ebola after helping those ebola people in Liberia and then lying about it. Hell, Liberia wants to prosecute him.

He didn't lie about it, did he? I thought he showed up to the hospital and told them "I just came from Liberia, and I'm really sick" and they were like, "nah, you're good homie. Here are some antibiotics. Have at it."
10-04-2014 , 01:09 AM
He lied when leaving Liberia when he didn't acknowledge that he'd been exposed intimately to sick ebola people.

And knowing that, to not be up front when he goes to the Dallas hospital is criminal. Honestly, he deserves to die.

Why in the hell are we allowing anyone to come here from Liberia?

I'm sorry... Did a staunch con just declare that a lie of omission is still a lie?

Have we found the hundredth monkey?

The smug idea that ebola can't break out here is 1st world hubris bull****. Look at how we're already botching the simplest things.

I've been saying that we've needed a new plague for quite awhile. Best case scenario is we get an antidote and eventual vaccine that is super expensive and hard to access, limiting its distribution to the very rich, and primarily those in America. After we lose ~1/3 of the population we get the vaccine mass-distributed polio-style and squash it out. Imagine how awesome that would be for real estate prices. Plus in a couple generations we'll have replenished ourselves and become a lot smarter as a species due to the very high correlation between the poors and low IQ.

Worse case scenario?

You know in horror movies or contagion movies where the person does something really dumb to cause the spread of the virus and you think 'that would never happen in real life'. Seems a lot more plausible now.

And none of these movies would screen an American Doc for ebola 3 times before going to Africa to help and not once on the way back, like I saw a doctor talking about on one of the Sunday shows 2 or 3 weeks ago. Granted this was before patient X started the countdown to extinction here, but still.
