I just meant that your houses are linked through the grid. The actual path of the energy is obviously unpredictable and complicated, but your excess power flows to your neighbors through the utility lines on your street more. Of course you don't own it once it gets past your meter.

There are instances where the owner of the solar sells power to other customers, but that's not the general case.

Right. Somebody has to pay for that infrastructure and I think that's the point of that Kansas bill.

Don't get me wrong - I believe that all industries are protectionist to their own ends. But to act as if solar is altruism and fossil fuels are evil is disingenuous.

Of course solar companies lobby in their own interest. Suniva is the perfect example here. They are a bankrupt American manufacturer pushing Trump to establish a floor price on imported solar modules. And the floor price they are looking for is about double what the lowest prices are for imports right now.

Fossil fuels are causing numerous environmental problems, not the least of which is their contribution to anthropogenic global warming. Solar, among other things, is mitigating that effect. In fact, solar is really most altruistic where it does cost more than fossil fuels and people are sacrificing for the good of the environment and future generations. Fortunately we are no longer dependent on altruism and solar has become cost effective at least in many places.

India Installs 4.8 Gigawatts Worth Of Solar In First Half Of 2017, Surpasses All Of 2016

Some good news, although it looks like they might taper off a bit next year.

Wonder how many fields of technology we will no longer lead after trump and the anti intellectuals get done.
