Of course solar companies lobby in their own interest. Suniva is the perfect example here. They are a bankrupt American manufacturer pushing Trump to establish a floor price on imported solar modules. And the floor price they are looking for is about double what the lowest prices are for imports right now.
Fossil fuels are causing numerous environmental problems, not the least of which is their contribution to anthropogenic global warming. Solar, among other things, is mitigating that effect. In fact, solar is really most altruistic where it does cost more than fossil fuels and people are sacrificing for the good of the environment and future generations. Fortunately we are no longer dependent on altruism and solar has become cost effective at least in many places.
