Because no one in college does drugs or alcohol, nor do they eat junk food.

The premise that 'giving money to poor people lifts them out of poverty' is flawed.

Financial subsidies, no matter how well intentioned, are not a magical panacea. Simply throwing money at a problem isn't always going to make it go away. In some cases you will merely end up subsidising idleness and dysfunctional behaviour.

This logical, common sense point has nothing to do with hating poor people.

Neurotic, Pavlovian hysteria ITT.

I heard some poor people had both government subsidies and air conditioning. On a scale of 1 to Benghazi, how outraged should I be about this?

Apparently the hoi polloi cannot read, let alone be reasoned with. I write A, they interpolate Z.

I suppose Orwells maxim is true afterall. You cannot reason a man out of a position that he hasn't been reasoned into in the first place.

Many people just don't have the skills or talent to contribute much to society, I expect this to include an increasing percentage of the population as automation and artificial intelligence develops. It is inevitable, including in pure market economies, that some people are not needed in the job market. I will sleep much better at night knowing they have descent living conditions instead of starving or begging on the street. Nobody wants to stay poor, some people just can't help it.

In a vacuum, maybe.

In that way, saying 'not giving money to poor people will lift them out of poverty' is just as flawed.

But, increasing access to resources/opportunites = money and that is a prime factor in the equation. Maybe we should study some (developed)countries that have lower poverty rates than ours. Something tells me money in some form or another going to poor people is involved.

Giving the poor people money, housing, EBT cards etc. is not to lift them out of poverty. They are bribes to keep them from rioting, robbing and killing.

Giving money to person A will lift them out of poverty, but giving money to person B will not.
So, amongst poor people, what's the ratio of A:B?

It's only part of the equation.

Would you say giving the poor people money, housing, EBT cards etc. increases or decreases their likelihood of getting out of poverty?

Attempting to instil an in-group, out-group dynamic. Always the first step. The last step being mass murder obviously.

I was just referencing your mental illness, racism, and fringe political philosophy, though. We don't have death camps to eliminate the undesirables yet. Thanks, Obama.

As per the locked thread in ALPHA, looks like this needs a bump.
