I ask him a simple question, he says he is catholic so i asked if he believes the church teaching about the moslem prophet being false. He says i should be arrested. He says i have gone "on and on" about moslems, but he can't provide a single citation.

I didn't "shout out" anyone, i just happened to see the argument in the trayvon thread as being very one sided, with a handful of posters representing the side of reason. its not only ike, there were a couple others but i forgot the name.

Silverman2 posting about how he is unfairly labeled racist by merely having suspicion of certain areas because of statistics showing he is more likely to get robbed there resonated with me because you all shouted him down when he was being completely reasonable and even polite and respectful in his posting. This is similar to treatment of ike in the other thread.

As for why i should take pride for achievements of people who i never met, well i ask the reverse, why should anyone? Will everyone go on record saying that noone should be proud of anyone in their ancestry, of any achievement they didn't personally achieve? or is it only when i do it that it suddenly becomes bad?

In comparing black pride to white pride...I have learned not to take it for granted that people know that the entire basis for the black pride movement was to compensate for feelings of inferiority on the part of blacks, who have inevitably internalized the race based value system instilled by centuries of slavery and oppression. So the black pride movement is more of an effort to blunt feelings of inferiority rather than to promote chest thumping.

The discrepancy between "white pride" and all other forms of racial pride is a simple double-standard. A similar discrepancy exists in a wide variety of other areas.

A friend of mine wanted to move to NYC a long time ago. He needed a cheap place to live and wasn't aware of the differences in the various neighborhoods in the city. So he went up to Washington Heights to inquire about a vacant apartment. (Washington Heights is a mostly Hispanic area north of Harlem. My friend is a white person with orange hair.) The old Cuban woman renting it told him in no uncertain terms that he would be a bad fit for the neighborhood and shouldn't move in. And she was totally right, by the way.

But say that old Cuban woman's grandson had gone to check out an apartment in Howard Beach (predominantly white/Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn) and been spoken to similarly. Then it's racism, right, or at least "more racist" than the situation in Washington Heights? That's what I'm gathering from this discussion, and so many others I've been privy to. Hell, the person advertising the Howard Beach apartment could probably be sued for even suggesting that a Cuban man shouldn't move in. I doubt the same could be said for his grandmother doing precisely the same thing in a situation where only racial roles were reversed.

What are some giveaway racist indicators? I'd say disliking Bob Dylan's music is definitely one. Disliking Barack Obama is also a clear indicator of a racist. Many people disagreed with George Bush's politics, but you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who is political oriented that dislikes George Bush the person.
