I think starting over the weekend is a bad idea. Wait till everybody's back in front of their computers on Monday. I think that will just make for better, more interesting threads. Also then it doesn't drag on if you just go M-F.

+1 to shorter period and brief window for people to make arguments before polls open.

Although maybe only finals/semi-finals need the window before polls open.

In my perfect world we don't use the polls and all and just make people talk out their votes (polling software is a scourge on message boards imo).

Don't agree with a discussion prior to voting period though- think that's just unnecessary and may lead to people not actually voting.
