Hid in business school through the rest of the recession playing to supplement my income during school and full-time in-lieu of summer internship. Used poker and playing the WSOP heavily in my essays, dont think Id have gotten into school without that.
Signed a job offer about a month before Black Friday and have probably played less than 500 hands since combined online and live. Starting to read and sharpen my game back up again for if/when regulated poker comes to my state.
I owe a lot to poker, no chance Id have been able to just take a 3.5 year vacation (including school) and resume working in the job I have now if I had just bummed around for 3.5 years. Poker paid the bills, but more importantly gave me the chance take time off without completely wrecking my career as well as a hook to get into school.
How did this work exactly? I have wanted to work my poker exploits into my CV in a meaningful way but worry that it will do more harm than good.
