I like the idea. Also, I just started playing on Party again within the last two weeks and noticed they now have standardized buying for tourneys and sngs and tickets that can be used for either. They also work with the step sngs so say for example you win a step 3 ticket but would rather try to boost your bankroll than play a step 4 you could play any sng or tourney with the ticket. Not quite as flexible as tourney bucks but still decent imo.
+100 to the idea of steps. I started thinking a bit about steps in the context of the T$2 tickets that were handed out before the $1M GTD, and it got me thinking down a rabbit hole about them. I really think step SnGs would be a great idea where tickets could be used to play 1) more step SnGs, 2) regular $ SnGs (including ODs), and 3) tournaments. Finally, step tickets can be converted to cash with a penalty akin to rake...so like a $5.50 step ticket could be converted to $5 cash.
Here are some of the benefits I imagine coming from this:
1) You get MTT players playing SnGs. SnG traffic goes up.
2) You get SnG players playing MTTs. MTT traffic goes up.
3) You get more (softer) traffic at the middle stakes. I'm not saying this as some mid-stakes shark...I'm down in the micros. But aside from being good for regs, this also creates much better traffic at slightly higher levels (that are now pretty sparse), which in turn might attract more traffic to the site. Also, it can be fun for recreational players to use tickets to take shots at $30 SnGs or MTTs or whatever
4) $$ stays in circulation longer and is guaranteed to be raked through either in more step SnGs, regular SnGs/MTTs, or by being converted to cash.
5) The idea that a $1.50 step ticket could be turned into a $5, then $15, then $50, then $150, then $500 ticket then $2250 cash is really appealing to many players, could bring in new traffic.
6) You keep regs on their toes as ICM calculations would vary from level to level as, assuming the steps above were used, 3rd place scores would vary, etc. This creates a bit of a vacuum as people adjust to these games, which I think is cool.
7) You can start working these into promos, or create new promos around these. Start running freerolls that grant step tokens. Start doing "challenges" or granting little "step king" trophies that don't just reward grinders, but recreational players too. To fund these you could use some of the "double rake" you'll get when someone plays a $5 step tourney, earns a $16.50 ticket, but then converts it to $15 cash and still plays with that money.
Ok, some of those benefits are more significant than others, and some probably wouldn't be realized. But I think if WPN launched steps and actually incentivized/promoted them as opposed to just throwing them in the lobby, they really could be a boon for the site.
