Are SNG 2.O profitable?

Are they actually worth it?
It seems the rake is absurd on them from what I'm reading on here. I have yet to see someone at a high level provide input.

as I'm rolled for the $5 dollar ones, id love to know ahead of time if I'm just wasting my time "attempting".

I'd love to try something new.

The rake is high, but the games are soft. Why don't you actually play them and find out instead of asking questions about a game that came out <1 week ago where nobody has sample?

I'm hearing a lot of people saying the rake is high -- but it's only 10%, right? Isn't that about what rake was for normal 9-man SnGs?

Re: Are SNG 2.O profitable?

- Rake is slightly higher. Standard Turbo 9-max SNGs on the site are between 8% and 9% rake depending on stake.

- Edge potential is reduced by the flatter payouts and blind lobby (and possibly by the inability to use a HUD).

- Variance will be substantially higher with the lottery-style prize pools.

+ Games should be substantially softer.

+ Traffic should be substantially higher.

Max, I'm gonna respond to a couple of your points just to get some clarity and talk through this new format...not trying to disagree.

But that should just drop one's ROI by ~1%, right? So if you were hitting a 10% ROI before, the rake shouldn't be making these games unbeatable.

Is this true? 50% of games now have a steeper payout structure (i.e. top 2 pay) than before, while 25% have the same structure and only 25% have flatter structures. I'd love to see more data on this either way.

Does the SNG 2.0 contribute to Sit N Crush? If so, this may tip the scales.

Re: Are SNG 2.O profitable?

I look at the "softness" of these games just like live brick and mortar casinos. When the BBJ is huge it attracts more fish/recs who don't play as much to play more making the overall games better.

As the jackpot money dries up it will be interesting to see how long it takes to build it back up because I imagine the games won't fill as quickly and they will be a bit tougher since the rec/fun players will not play as many of them until it increases.

I appreciate the discussion.

Correct. Plus there is also rake return to consider, which mitigates it some.

Yeah, good point. It's definitely not as straightforward as I was thinking. Looking at where the expected prize pool money comes from, the portions are similar from the flatter (36%) and steeper (39%) payouts. So probably how that affects edge depends on the individual player's relative skill.

Also, there is an argument that having a varied number of payout places provides an edge for players that are better at adjusting. So maybe this ends up in the + column.
