I really hate normals. I try to use them to try out / practice champs, and GL ever getting mid/top

Don't be the dude who instalocks, I just try to get good at typing in the lane I want as fast as possible. If you can competently play 4 positions then it is rare that you have a real problem, though it is a pain if you happen to want to practice a particular role other than support. I dodge whenever it seems that a team can't get its **** together in champ select, I miss more games but overall I spend very little time hating the game.

What is the champ select etiquette in ranked? Is it just first come first serve based on pick order or are you still trying to call lanes? The placement matches I played seemed to consist of people saying "I'm taking whatever lane I want and I don't care what anyone says" but not sure if that is just a symptom of super low ELO.

You usually call a lane or two you prefer. But it still is first come first serve. Thats why you should be able to play any role once you start playing ranked.

Call what you're good at, like "prefer mid/supp" so people know, dont be a douche who

A) says nothing, instalocks
B) calls one role, with nothing else to show you might be flexible like "mid"

Eh, I don't think I'm a douche for calling the lane I want to play. If you say something like mid/support, people are more likely to take mid, even though what you're asking is for people to be more likely to take support. If you trust your teammates, absolutely the more information the better, i.e. jungle > support > top > mid > adc or what have you. But frequently there are guys that are silent or just say they're filling, and then suddenly last pick is left to adc and oh whoops he's played 700 ranked games and played adc in the vicinity of twice.

Pro tip: People that say fill in champion select are unlikely to be good at mid or adc, because if they fill on a regular basis they practically never play those roles.

I start a game and get 2nd pick. Last pick rush types 'ADC'. I decide I want to play ADC because 1st and 3rd pick called mid and top (my other preferred roles) and picking adc this early isn't as risky for getting countered, so I say "adc". He screams in chat "I WAS FIRST!!!!". I say "that has no bearing on my decision". Guy loses his mind. He wishes death on my whole family from cancer etc etc. Then picks Thresh.

Once in game he buys a longsword+pots and says he's not going to help me. When we get to lane he starts hitting the creeps as much as he can, either stealing my cs or just ruining cs for both of us.
I didn't even get mad, I just went to task manager and killed the application. It's not worth the agrevation to deal with this level of toxic ****** behavior. I've got better things to do with my free time.

It was a promotion series game as well. I give zero ****s (was down 0-1 tho).

sickest part of it is that he gets away with it and you got flagged for that game... Hate tribunal.

This is my 5th.

There are ways to turn that on him. He can't 1v2 as thresh. So just farm the best you can and keep up a positive attitude in team chat. Try to force a fight from behind him and when it looks like time to commit, just let him die. Hilarity will ensue.

This brings up something I was wondering about on the support side of things. I've noticed that when I support and have a dumb ADC, I constantly have to decide whether or not to go in with him on idiotic tower dives or hold back and give them one kill instead of two. Is there particular way I should be thinking about these decisions or is it always best to just try to keep him alive even if it is a dumb play?

@Wolfram: I have yet to experience toxicity at that level, and you are slightly partially to blame. Not because you picked something someone called, because F call order. Try to communicate before your pick to ease possible tensions before they come up. I would have prob mentioned I am in a promo myself, or I am inexperienced at supp/better at adc than other roles. He is still a dbag and you can't change that if he really wanted to always be a jerk though.

I authoritatively call either top or jungle every time. I nearly always get the role I want, but will fill if I have to and am a lower pick. I haven't had to support or adc in a solo (when I'm not duo queue) in a really, really long time.

Riot officially endorsed pick order, but until they allow champ select reporting, that means little.

I like the quit on the thresh, although I just would have dodged.

Sure the guy's pissed but I assume once the game goes on a bit he'll settle down, losing still sucks even if you're "trolling". I'd just let him cs and play the support role pretty much and see what happens. Prob not gonna win but it's a spot where you can maybe pull a win where other people can't, kind of an interesting challenge if you're into that sort of thing.

When I'm last pick and supp is only role left I say "I'm not very good at support, least played role. If someone else could play that'd be cool, if not I can try."
This almost always works. Out of hundreds and hundreds of games I've probably had to support less than 20 times.

That sounds like a lot of work. Leaving the game ensures he will lose which is punishment enough and requires zero work on my part. It also has the benefit of completely removing me from a toxic situation which does wonders for my mental well being.

I'm not skilled enough to get to a point where this level of toxicity stops and it annoys me that I need to play some sort of nanny-pacifier just to slightly decrease the chances of a toxic game. So I choose to ignore it, not care and leave when it gets too bad to ignore.

I have a bad habit of trying to reason with ******s on the internet which I'm trying to quit. It's like mudwrestling with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig actually enjoys it.

So when someone is trying to shove their dick up my ass I should spread my cheeks further apart and try to enjoy it?

When you're with 4 constructive people a lot of the time the troller gets in line and you can win it. For me, it's as annoying to lose to a troll as it is to lose because someone can't deal with/leaves or re-trolls the troll.

I guess I play a higher value on both winning and being a good teamplayer even when it's randoms over the internet.

It's not my job to coddle raging ****heads. And it's not my responsibility either. It's just a game, and it's not worth the grief. Even if it hurts the rest of the team, that's not on me, that's on the troll.

I could see an argument for reporting me (in case this was something I did regularly, which I don't), but doing so and then not reporting him is just insane.
