I'm thinking about trying LoL. What's the best way to get up to speed?

As for my background in the MOBA genre, I played quite a bit of HoN in the beta, and zero DotA. I started back on HoN a couple days ago (was bad then, am worse now), but they've added like 30 new heroes I don't know anything about. I figure if I'm going to have to learn dozens of new heroes, maybe I should be playing the more popular game.

Compare/contrast with HoN? Or has that topic been played out. I haven't even skimmed the prior #4726 posts.

WW is a massive mana whore you really have to build around his Q to not have it just be a sustain spell

even with blue buff you run out of mana super easy in the jungle

I think Udyr is the same way if you have to switch into turtle a lot

Sion even with the buff and mana regen yellows can easily run out, though get blue and crush face despite only have 2abilities

just put up a monster 14/1 game with Sion, bottom with support Sona, Graves went top for some reason, man that stun + shield combo is so absurd

Alright, Tryn cant carry a level 3 game if you have a leave, afk, and an autoattacker.

And another teammate "I LOVE 0 KILL TRYN" when I am level 7. He had 14 cs at 20 mins.

I was going to get Morg since she's cheap, but think I'll save for Kass. I want Brand, but hes too damn expensive.

Also, I'll be up for playing a bunch tonight(like.. 8-9 hours from now I'll start).

As someone who just started playing Gragas. Gragas.
He's not your typical AP mage but looooads of fun. You're basicly drinking wine for 50 minutes straight, throwing barrels at people and bodyslamming(which is the best emotion in LoL). Also, great farmer and sweet burst when you can bodyslam, barrel, ulti 2-3 persons. And cheap

Morg is abosultely rapetastic. She's also a strong counter for some other mages, and that makes her easily worth learning. Cheap and dominant.

Kass is really good as well. IMO get morg and work on her while u save for kass. If u can play both well u'll be a really strong middle

edit: even better than that though, try out the free champions and find one you like.

I don't like kass for new players, he really inflates ego cause your gonna go legendary every other game while it doesn't mean you actually played well it just means you are playing kassadin

just bought karthus and GP.
Played 2 games with karthus and in both I had a tough start.
After rabadon it got better but his Q isn't easy to hit a champ with(the delay).

I tried jungling GP alone and it feels so squishy I died in wolves wraith small golems path wit vampiric scepter.
Tried with cloth+pot and didn't feel right as well.
Any jungle GP players here?

Odd, after watching that video, it made me lean back towards HoN. Perhaps I'm biased since I've already invested time in it. I would like a nicer community, but the technical aspects of the game mechanics are more important to me.
