no one played Morde last year so when should the teams have been practicing vs him, all year or right before the one game where he is a surprise pick?

The week before SHC knew Overpow would play Morde mid, do you think SGC should have practived vs all possible mid champs equally or prioritized the ones he plays a lot and are the most likely picks?

You're putting quite a few words in my mouth.

However considering the mid champs overpow plays a lot are probably common picks, I'd assume SHC already have a lot of practice vs those champs. Furthermore, we're not talking about practicing before any single event, we're talking about constant practice and constant re-evaluation/trying things/understanding ALL champions better throughout the seasons rather than just categorizing them as bad/never-picked

let's say there are 25 common mid matchups, if you manage to play 200 games a month (~8 games a day, 6 days a week) that leaves you with 8 games per common mid match up

i'm not convinced the roi of playing 7 games of say ori vs ziggs and one ori vs morde is higher than just playing 8 games of ori vs ziggs, esp in the beginning of the season

maybe with a good coach/scout you can narrow it down (for example someone mentioned morde being huge in brazil) and it's worth it, but randomly playing matchups just in case probably has a lower roi imo

You have a limited time to practice so the teams should prioritize playing against champs that are played. Your complaint about the team not practicing against non meta champs only makes sense ones you know what non meta champs the other teams are gonna play.

i guess we just have to agree to disagree.
playing/practicing with/against champs that are never played is the only way to ever break the meta. otherwise you'll just be one step behind the "innovators", always playing catch up and always left guessing.

And the more you practice against them, the better you'll be able to gauge what champions might actually get picked in tournaments because you'll much better understand their pros and cons.


All this is even more true in a new season where a lot of stuff(champions, gold, towers, vision) has changed

i figured a game an hour is a good average. game length 35 mins, picks and bans, and you probably want to do some reviewing/thinking if your aim is to be world-class

That was a beautiful game from Gambit - they took their small advantages (Alex killing Froggen in lane, a terrible decision to 2v1 which eliminated whatever hope Wickd had of staying even with Darrien, and Wickd's terrible build) and just snowballed perfectly - no risks, no teamfights, just perfect rotations, smothering Alliance to death.
