Will max League and Dota.

If you wanted to spend more I would swap the GPU for a R9 270 if you decide to play more demanding games. You could also get an H97 or Z97 motherboard which will support the Broadwell CPUs when they are released.

there is no way u're considering spending 100$ on video card but 68$ on a dual core CPU. you did say you're attempting to play video games, not mine bitcoins

If you can afford to spend more $ i would highly recommend a SSD. Maybe you can use a old HDD for data? Furthermore i would conside upgrading the CPU. After that I would also consider getting 1x8GB RAM in order to be able to upgrade more easily in the future.

The 1x8GB I understand, the points above it, I don't.

My post on the site:

Budget: $400-$500 after rebate
Location: Henderson, NV

My roommate is really good at putting together computers but his suggestions for parts have been overboard (price wise) for a computer that I want to play LoL, DOTA2, and watch Netflix.

I do not need:
OS
CD drive
Keyboard/mouse/etc

So a case+ all internals (including a power supply).

Thank you!

How's this one? Is this overkill for LoL?

A SSD is a bit of a luxury, but if you can afford it they're totally awesome. SSD's are another form of storage media that are more expensive per volume of storage, but they are substantially faster than traditional hdd. I just built a new machine of my own recently and the load times are incredibly fast. My computer goes from turned off to ready to use in 4 or 5 seconds, for example.

You can get a ~120GB SSD (which is plenty to install your OS and most if not all of your games depending on what games you play) for like $50-60, which to me is totally worth it, but ymmv.

I agree with this. There's really no appreciating how awesome it is until you use one yourself.

so of the above parts list I listed in the link, where does the SSD go? RAM slot?

I read up on SSD and would much rather spend the extra $$ for it now. Im hoping this cpu setup lasts a good while, since Im thinking this may be a last push of my gaming career

guys
he doesn't need an SSD for dota, league and netflix. he's not playing poker. Furthermore, any gains from the SSD would quickly be negated by the **** CPU.

rebel, no, your cpu setup will not last even 6 months. Dual core CPUs are already outtdated. I would know, I had a dual core for the last 4 years before finally upgrading as it was getting ridiculously slow.

Honestly, if u want a decent pc you're gonna have to shell out more. I'm surprised though, as I built a much better pc with like $600-ish so maybe shop around more for prices?

My tips:

NO ****ING SSD, you're not playing poker.
Quad+ core cpu
1x8GB ram as stated before, ideally 16+gb ram total

this looks MUCH better and has the potential to actually last you a fair bit. the 2x4gb ram could still be improved by having just 1x8gb and for the love of god, stop selecting microATX motherboards you want ATX, just ATX no microATX

i can suggest things in a general sense and give advice, but my knowledge is suboptimal when building pcs. i've no idea what make of MBs are better, for instance, or which HDDs are more highly regarded. same with CPU, i just go by the speed/cache and google a few reviews. You're in the US though so I'm sure you can find some service that does this for 20$ or sth or just post in the computer questions section of 2p2, i'm sure ppl way more knowledgeable will be willing to help.

The key is knowing what you need/knowing what is unnecessary fluff. What you need is non-SSD HDD, a quad-core or better, buncha RAM and a good video-game-videocard (here i'm also terrible, i still have the video card i bought 4 yrs ago for 100$ since i just use PC for poker and league)

also, earlier in the article has some good picks for specific price points.
