Can money be made from playing LOL. If so.. how much?

And how?
Some streamers make 100k+ a year, but they are often very good and/or very entertaining and have been streaming for years.

A Korean named Faker who is arguably the best player in the world has made $250 000 from prize money alone, probably a ton more from endorsements and such. Obviously most people will never even reach pro level let alone make that kind of money while being pro. There are however diamond players who make six figures easily from subscriptions and ad revenue while streaming their games on twitch. Also I've heard of coaches charging $20 -$40 or more per lesson.

Here is a list of top prize money earners in League of Legends:

Also out of all esports LOL is the most lucrative:

Other than streaming... I guess theres no actual revenues from the gameplay?

Shame.

Also if you're a complete video game noob you'll probably find it very difficult to transition to a game like lol from games like poker or chess. So much of it is mechanics which means having good keyboard and mouse skills. I have years of counterstrike experience and have good mouse skills at least but after six months of lol my mechanics are still not that great.

Okay so when I say video game noob. I mean mmo noob...

I used to destroy video games back in the day. Ie late 1990s.... But just felt like they added no real value to my life... so quit them for good and took up poker.

But if I could game. And battle for monies. I'd insta assemble a team of ninjas and start playing.

So when u say prize money... what % of players cash? Ie we talking like an mtt structure... what sorta buy in stakes etc.

The time a grown man like you would need to sink into League would be better spent elsewhere if profit is the sole motivator. It's not something people generally "HU4ROLLS" with, and there is only a very small handful of streamers making the kind of money talked about in the last few posts.

In the LCS and OGN the players don't have to put up any money. Prize money is provided by Riot and sponsors. I dunno about lower leagues. I'd say the chances of an adult beginner (who has never been a high level in any other Esports) ever reaching that level are probably the same as becoming a pro golfer or something though lol.

Haha... I get the feeling u guys doubt my grown man gamin zen. Im literally retiring to a 3rd world country pretty soon. So just exploring options. Clearly online gaming isnt lucrative enough for my time in its current form.... maybe in the future.

**** it. Maybe ill just start my own sng mtt wagering mmo site. Or not. Haha

Enjoy kids.

See ya in a decade or two at the mmo felt.

First, I'm not discounting you because of your age or lack of having played video games. The analogy to picking up golf at this point of your life and becoming good enough to make a living (read: successful on the Web.com Tour) is pretty spot-on.

To your second point, e-sports is a relatively new industry and I'm certain there are many as-of-yet untapped financial ventures. There are plenty of cocky headstrong white suburban *******s (ages 13-25) that play this game and talk enough **** to prove that they've never been out of mom's house. Praying on their ego somehow would be a blessing to the world, and if you could make money from exploiting them, you would be my hero.

Take all that for what it's worth

Its cool boy. I dont get offended easily!! Ha...

Yeah the industry could be huge in a decade or so especially with all the automation and abundance of new tech that will put a lot of ppl out of jobs in the next 10years.

I hope someone taps into it soon. Good luck crushin those basement fools kid.

I'm not offended, but I'm probably older than you.

Also, I'm trying to answer your question without just bluntly being dismissive of what is realistically a laughable idea. Bitchibee is spot on, except I think his analogy should have been an even higher limit.

I've been nothing but nice and have wished you well. Way to be an internet tough guy, though. And yes, I'm sure you can school me in Yahoo pool, as well as a variety of other life-skills you've honed. Grats.

Pretty sure I disagree at this moment. Just too much amateurism still.

Being a pro golfer I think would be harder than a pro league player.

there are older golfers, and more pro golfers. theres ~150 pro league players running around all of which are 30 and under

But golf has been around way longer and is obviously more popular than a video game.

Should we amend it to say profitable/winning? Cause obviously NB made bank before joining TSM still.

There's probably more brain surgeons in the world than that but I'd say that's a lot more difficult. It's all relative obviously. Both are obviously quite difficult, require a certain mindset and tenacity to overcome adversity.
