What is Ventrilo? Ventrilo is a voice chatting program that allows you to connect to a server with channels and chat with your friends. Why would anyone use Ventrilo? Well, it makes gaming with your buddies a lot more fun, you can play your favorite games while chatting with your friends at the same time. It make's things like arranged team ladder a lot easier, and makes playing custom games more fun. Currently i only have a 20 slot ventrilo server setup but if it becomes active and more people start using it, ill gladly increase the cap with a click of a mouse.

Don't be afraid to join this vent with your friends JUST to use it for your own games. Please use this vent whenever the hell you want, it doesn't have to be used only when you're playing sc2, you can use it when you're playing other games too.

To those who already know how vent works, here is the information:

Host IP: raymears.typefrag.com
Port: 5115

Here is what this vent looks like atm (i just set it up so it's empty):

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CONNECT [LOOK HERE NOOBIES]
Download the program here: http://ventrilo.com/download.php

When you launch the program, you'll have to make a user name to connect to a server. Click on the small arrow to the right and fill out out the information, leave phonetic/description/work dir empty.

After you made your user name, now you have to add in the server information. Click on the little right arrow next to Server, and paste my vent info in there (twoplustwo.typefrag.com : 30358).
This is what it should look like:

Once you finish that, press ok, now you can connect to the server. Don't worry about the bindings section, leave that field empty.

Grats, now you should be in the server, but you still can't talk and you have to go to setup to change your settings to your preferred way of communicating. Click setup on the right side after you have connected to the server. Now you have 2 options, you can either enable push to talk, or disable it and have your microphone go off when you just speak. To enable push to talk check mark the box in the top left and press your preferred hot key in the hot key box. I recommend binding your push to talk to a button on your mouse, because you can easily talk while playing the game. Turn your outbound up to 10 so people can hear you, and keep your inbound at 0. If people seem really loud in vent turn your inbound down below zero, and put it higher if everyone seems too quiet. Now, if you don't want to use push to talk, just uncheck it and set your sensitivity to something like 0.60, now whenever you make a noise near your microphone it will activate and people will be able to hear you. The downside to this is that we can hear others around you too, so if you still live with your parents its probably not a good idea. Press ok once you have finished these simple instructions.

If you have any problems connecting to the server, first try turning off or enabling this program on your firewall. If that doesn't work, post in this thread or pm me for help.

How to copy someone's comment in vent:
Let's say Joe put a link to a funny youtube clip in his comment, to view his video right click his user name in ventrilo, then go to Miscellaneous, then go to copy comment or copy comment URL. That is all.

Nice, now you have everything setup and you're ready to chat. Don't be shy though, we're all friendly.

Shamelessly re-copied from the thread I made in VG forum, which was shamelessly stolen from the thread made in SC2 forum, NO SHAME BRAH

Edit: The current max is 35 users, I can increase this if needed. Just be aware that for 35 users, it costs around $144/year. I believe that it is $144/year to make it 50 users. If you like this and wish to donate to keep it going, my paypal info is in the motd. The vent will probably never get canceled, due to lack of funds: But It's always nice to have some sort of help for it.

If you want a private passworded room for yourself, let me know: PM me the name of room and the password you want.
Also, if you have any ideas for names for the chat rooms instead of what they are, let me know also. I'll make it whatever you guys want, just so it looks better for you.

Just a note, if you want to disable push to talk, I was annoying people when using 0.6 for the sensitivity, but using 30 instead was fine.

HOW TO NORMALIZE VENT

Some people have there mic's turned WAY UP others are very low or soft spoken, below is a way to normalize most voices, its works great.

  • Go to Setup
  • Enable Direct Sound
  • Select the SFX Button
  • Select Compressor and click Add.
  • Under Compressor Properties use the following settings:
    Gain = Adjust for how loud you want people to be. (I use 15)
    Attack = 0.01
    Release = Around 500
    Threshold = Around -30
    Ratio = 100
    Pre delay = 4.0

Will this work with macs? I know vent in general works but some of the codecs won't work on a mac.

I didn't realize Jack had this all set up and stickied. I got restless and got a server. It's paid for one year, 15 person max.

Use it for whatever you guys want, we are all degenerates here.

PM me on here or message me in-game (Raymears) if you want your own channel or anything.
