So what happened apart from online poker to cause you to veer away from the band thing?
Thanks!
We were always more highly-tipped than we were popular; we had some great tours supporting big bands (at the time, the Kaiser Chiefs were about the biggest band in the UK; The Noisettes, The Automatic, Rifles, Pipettes...), we played big festivals and one-off shows but when we went off on our own tours, it didn't amount to anything. I guess after a while we just lost heart. And then our record label/management started to doubt us, and when that happens it's the beginning of the end.
It was the best way I could imagine spending my early 20s, though. It was so much fun and I am still super-proud of what we did achieve
This is a track from my current solo project, Drown in Alchemy. It's kind of American Headcharge/Spineshank ish
recorded by me using the following:
Cubase 5
M-audio Fast Track Pro
Dean Vendetta
Korg Pandora (lol, I know... I'm a drummer - I get a pass, right?)
Drumkit from Hell samples programmed via FL Studio 8
Epiphone Thunderbird bass
Native Instruments Reaktor (synth percussion loops)
Ozone mastering software
I wouldn't be concerned about you vocals. It actually suits that style of music.
It actually reminded me a bit of Mike Patton when you changed vocal style at around :56
Wow, thanks. I wish I sounded like Mike Patton!
I mean I can get by as far as guitar and vocals -- I've been in bands since I was 13. Been playing drums for nearly 20 years. Which is kind of funny considering I program samples for drums and don't actually record them. But with the heavy rock/metal genre, you can definitely get away with it (provided you know what you're doing from a drumming standpoint).
That's very decent guitar for someone who is primarily a drummer.
Not many people like their own vocals. Just work to your strengths. The doubling of the vocal track in parts works well too. It creates a good dynamic there.
That's what I like about bands like System of a Down. Having two fairly oppositional vocal stylings makes things interesting.
Not really a band but I run a youtube channel where I post piano covers / remixes of popular tunes from various genres of music. The Australian House Duo Flight Facilities had me remix their new single Foreign Language recently...
I mix and make hip hop/electronic music/pop and a ton of other styles so this is just what I'm working on right now. Got some really nice drum and bass stuff lined up for the new year that's coming out for a new breakout artist from the UK.

I try to be there for the recording process, whether it's in my project studio or a commercial space. I definitely will mix sessions I haven't been there to record though.
I do original productions as well, and mix for electronic/hiphop/pop composers that don't mix their own stuff (pretty common actually).
I really have to get cracking on my home studio stuff
I had about 60 cassette tapes (lol) with everything I ever did on them circa 1989-2000, all lost. Everything from little jam ideas to my first two bands to later when I got a 4-track Tascam. I didn't think much of it at the time but now that I've gotten back into music I really wish I had them back. Not that it's bad starting fresh but still.
