Hi all,

20/40 limit mix, there is an MP open from someone I've pegged as looser than most, I have Q-dugi (A38Q) next to act and 3!, he calls and we are HU.

I pat and he draws 2, bet, pat, he draws 1, I bet, then he pats on the last draw, and I draw one. He checks, and I draw a pair (A) and check behind.

OK?

Thanks,
DT

Sorry, but I don't understand the action. If he opened in MP and you were next to act, don't you have position on him? Please lay out the action so there is no doubt as to position, and who did what on each street. Otherwise, you can't get any useful feedback.

Sorry. I was in the CO and he opened in middle position so yes I had position on him.

The first draw he drew two. I patted. He checked, I bet and he called.

Second draw he draws one. I pat, he checks and I bet. He calls.

Last draw he pats and I break my dugi and draw 1. He checks and I check behind with a pair in my hand.

Thanks for your patience with my noob mixed games posts.

He didn't check raise after 2nd draw against a hand that was pat from the start?

Very player dependent as to whether you should break. Also very dependent on his image of you.
Since you were pat from the start, could he have made a slightly worse Q8 (or even a K) and is hoping you either check back river (with a dealt king or rougher queen) and he wins or you were bluffing from the get go? Have you shown down previous snows?
How light is he check/raising for value (does it include hands like J8xx and T8xx dugis)?--if yes, then you should be trying to be trying to show down your Q8 more.
Has he c/r bad made dugis to try and get you to break better hands?--If yes, then you should be more prone to brreak.

Similar thing to think about- What would you have done if this opponent check raised 2nd draw? Is this a bet/3bet or bet/call against this opponent?

Yes very player dependent and you don’t often have the questions posed in the post above answered and even if you did notice a situation against another player the positions at the table may have been different and/or he wouldn’t have played it the same way against you for whatever reason.

I’d start by looking at the size of the pot and figure out the ramifications of breaking the best hand and what % of the time you need to be correct in making a break. Then think through it again with that knowledge in your back pocket
