My theory is that most 8 game players have been around poker awhile and are looking to have fun. We are getting tired of O8 and HE and triple draw is quite a change. The action is fabulous also. Can't remember how many times I saw people calling 1200 and drawing three in the stars 400-800 game.

TD is probably considered the most fun because it's so unique to the other games in the rotation. All the rest have something in common with at least one of the other games. All the stud games can get kinda draining, there's the big pot games that follow similar strategies (PF ranges, post-flop play, metagame), the two split-pot games that require similar ideas on scooping and whatnot... But Triple Draw stands alone in the mix, it follows the 2-7 lowball guidelines instead of the A-5 lowball we see in the other games, plus there's no upcards at all, while every other game has either a flop or is stud.

Anyone know who is romashka55 who plays the 400/800? It says he is from russia, i wonder if he is a pro or just an oil tycoon or something. Doesnt seem to play well enough for the level..

I began playing .20/.40 this week and I'm now in love with 8-Game. Playing on a very short roll, but it has already increased significantly just from playing 8 game. Stud H/L, LHE, and PLO are my favorite games and seem to be the ones a lot of people play very poorly, Stud 8 especially. I am completely lost while playing TDL, especially when it seems like I only catch my good draws(or what I think to be good as I frantically check the Lowball wiki starting hand selection) when im OOP. 8 Game is really quite refreshing and this is the first time I have been incredibly excited about something poker related for a good while.

Everyone seems to be ranking 27TD at the top yet there are very few TD only games running .50-1.00 and higher..........Ive pretty much switched over completly to TD with occasional sessions of 8Game and stud mixed in.

I have a question for those who play and win at 7/8 game, how long have you all been playing poker and mixed games? And when you played NLHE or whatever your main game was, what stakes were you at and beating them for?

I want to move NLHE to the bottom of my list. My opponents play that much better than I do apparently.

While NLHE is the game that got me into poker, and quite possibly still my favorite way to play poker(stud8 is quickly taking over this role), it is still the most boring round in the 8 Game for me. All my interesting Hold'em spots seem to come during the LHE rounds.

Played a HU SNG against a fella named Kudri84 today. Lost half my stack every time during the TDL rounds. I thought this game was confusing, but it is even more so heads up.

What sort of winrate would you guys say is achievable at the micro's in terms of BB/hr/table.

How many hours would I need to play to any ideal of my winrate taking into account I'm 2 tabling?

Nice to see this thread, I loooove 8-game, really any mixed games are good for me, I just like 8-game the best because it has the most variety. Typically I grind NL SNGs or PLO cash and playing a nice 2-3 hour session 3-tabling 8-game really puts the fun back in the game again. It would be cool if they dropped the big bet games and threw in Badugi and 5-card draw, but it's fine the way it is IMO. Does anyone in here play the SNGs? If so, how often do they run? I used to be very good in the HORSE SNGs but didn't play many because they didn't run too often.

Just a thought...anyone else really, really like the idea of being able to create your own custom mixed game tables/SNGs? Or even better, something like Dealer's Choice?? Sadly not enough people play these as it is (I was shocked to see how unpopular the PLHE/PLO tables are, I would think they would be growing pretty big in popularity by now), but maybe if Stars starts to make it easier to find these mixed games we could get more players and more demand for all sorts of cool/crazy formats.

Also, am I the only one finding that position matters in TD way more than Hold em and even Omaha?? Like I'm thinking I can even profitably play good draw-3 hands from the button since you get access to so much more info. Then again I'm a fish in pretty much everything...

been playin poker: about 15 years
playin mixed games: Around 1996 limit dealer's choice flop game at Kewadin in MI got me introduced to concept. You could choose HE, Pineapple, Crazy, or Omaha in high or hi-low version. Hi Low Hold-Em was very occasionally picked.
Frank Henderson's ROE game at WSOP and in LA got me hooked on mixed in about 1999.
Later arrives online HORSE and 8-game well...mixed nuts for sure. Love it.
When not playing 8-game, I like O8 and PLO and always did. My relationship with hold 'em has been really love-hate over the years.
Hoping the middle limits of 8-game grow in the future.

if i was commissioner of the 8game stuff, i'd do the following things:

1) eliminate LHE
2) put a cap on NLHE and PLO (50 to 75bbs is optimal)

why the cap?

Replace LHE with Badugi or 5CD.

Also all I want for Christmas is draw games on FTP!

so the big bet games dont play ridiculously bigger than their limit counterparts

yeah you can say that 10/20 plays close to 2.5/5, but not when you're flipping or 60/40 in multiple 1k pots

Been playing poker since 04. Didn't really start playing non holdem games until about a year later. I used to be able to beat 5/10-10/20 LHE during the party days (ahhh, 2005-2006 were the nuts), but probably couldn't beat 2/4 LHE now since I stopped playing it. No way I would ever be a winner above 10/25c NL. I've never really had the patience or the drive to get better at it.

Stud was my main game a year ago, up to 3/6, but now I'll mainly stick to 1/2-2/4 mixed games, a ton of .50/1-1/2 TD, and the occasional 1/2 Badugi. I'm pretty much willing to play any stud or draw game at those limits. I play a lot of NL tournaments and have a pretty good ROI in those, but dare not sit at a NL cash table.

All these suggestions for changes to 8-Game sound a little too much like each individual poster trying to sway the format to suit their advantages. Players are wanting to omit games that they dislike and put caps on games to maybe avoid big losses they suffer in these games.

I think the idea of giving us deeper stacks in the NLHE/PLO rounds is a good idea (making these blinds 3x lower than limit blinds), and also the idea of ADDING another game or two to the mix, instead of subtracting. Each poker format is fun in its own way, so I say keep them all, maybe add 5 Card Draw or Badugi some day, but surely don't start taking things away!

what about when you're in a pf capped pot 3way on the flop? swongs are just as hilarious (usually more so).

capping may be okay, but to cap less than 100bb is a bit silly imo.

meh idk maybe it would generate more action from mediocre players in bigbet games because of some illogical "only can lose x bets in a pot" thing... hmm.

if its purely in terms of game mechanics its obv silly but in terms of how action plays out you may be right. if this is what you're thinking and don't appreciate the post msg me or something and i'll take care of it
