Yes, in the sense people will definitely put way too much money in drawing to rough hands, or good hands, when they should just fold.
No, in the sense that when you lose, you lose big, and it makes you swing a lot.
As a general rule of thumb I usually don't bet more than half the pot size, except in cases where is pre, I have a huge draw in position, or I already have a made hand, or someone is extremely short and a little more would just put them all in. Also, I will raise more than half the pot if someone is betting into me. I think you should have raised to 300 on the turn here. If he's drawing hes going to call because $2 PLB players are idiots, and you get more in the pot when he misses. If you bet the river you can bet smaller (say, 400, something you were going to bet anyways, but it looks too enticing to call for him, and it gives him "great" odds), or if you don't like betting you can check behind knowing you got him to put in extra on the turn.
You definitely can make a lot more out of your hands in position, but you have to play extra cautious out of position.
