I was curious about tells in draw poker. One tell I wrote about in my books, and which used to make me a lot of money in home games in college, was the staring-at-cards-when-weak tell. Basically: when a player looks at their draw and stares at them for a second or two, it makes it more likely they're weak than if they just put them down quickly.

Obviously this is pretty well-known (and relates to the staring-at-board-cards-when-weak tell) that a lot of recreational players have, but I'm curious if this is a pretty common thing people still rely on. Or if most players are aware of it these days, even recreational ones, and are more careful.

I haven't played any draw games in years so thanks for any info about the current state of the games and what you guys find valuable tell-wise.

The most obvious ones to me are people that order their cards when they receive them so you can guess how many they are going to draw, and the related move of preparing their draws before it's time. Sometimes you can even guess how well they drew by where they slot their received card.

Because you get a lot more cards to handle some players get ready to fold earlier and you can play a button range in the cut-off, just like in hold'em.

You want to get hold of John Fox's "Play Poker, Quit Work and Sleep till Noon".

He gives you all the dope (and then some on all of this).

Mike Caro's "Caro's Book Of Tells" also has draw poker examples in it.

If you've never played live it might be more important to learn about angle shooting than tells. That's how I feel, but my live mix experience is almost all at the wsop. Rooms with a regular mix probably have fewer problems.
