Hi guys, i play 8-game on stars. 1-2 to 8-16. I am planning to buy the mixed games course at upswing poker. In the past ive been coached by chris pokerfox wallace. I am currently a member of pokermindcoachacademy.

Is anyone interested to make a studygroup on mixedgames? If so, pm me

i live in norway and work 2weeks on and 4 weeks of, so timezones shouldnt be a big issue. Let me know if you are interested.

If no one is interested, how do you reccomend i get the most out of my mixed games study? I am planning to videotape sessions, write down difficult spots.Analyse and try to find answers in books instead of reading beforehand. How do you guys go about it?

i honestly don't know. i'd assume upswing has a good coach, and you can get plenty from there hopefully. you can just post the hands on these forums and there's usually 2-4 good players that pop in and out to give some good advice in each of the games. i wouldn't bother with the o8 forum tho.
i mean, if you're already beating 8-16 on stars, i'd assume you don't really need a study group, but good luck anyway

Yeah, im probably in a good place here. I just wanted to give it a try, but discussing spots in this forum is something new i havent tried. I have only used books/videos in the past. Thanks for your reply

Yes, i have been member of DC and Ivey league in the past, but didnt really take part in HH reviews. I am now a member of PMCA wich is amazing. I needed a place to work on my technical game in addition to my mental game. I someone has mentalgame questions i am more than willing to help.

Hi. I have the mixed games course already. There is almost nothing going on in the Facebook group for that but would love to find someone who is interested in regular study sessions.

Putting in tons of volume and observing good players will be both infinitely more valuable and cost effective than most coaches and training courses. Although I can’t speak to the value of most courses I can speak to the value of figuring it out on your own

Seen it, not that impressed with it frankly

You can tell there really wasn't much preparation. In Omaha he's saying stuff like "on the button I guess you can open around 60%, if you don't know what hands are good, google it, lists are out there"

Sample hands really aren't that good. He doesn't take the time to choose good hands to display. He will just replay an old session and maybe by luck some good hands to examine come up. But many of them are from SCOOP and WCOOP final tables and there are ICM considerations and not the best examples to show for general cash game strategy.

Would rate it a 3/10

That is actually great info. I might stick to videotape myself online mark spots, and solve for hands usings books i have and ppt. And of course use 2+2 actively. What do you think?

o8's the only game that i only started beating once i ignored everything i learned from books and videos. books and videos put too much emphasis on playing for the nuts, and not enough on keeping yourself from getting run over.

Yeah, and i play 6 handed too. I have ray zee book on O8 and stud hi lo. For stud hi i have stud for advanced players by sklansky. I am planning to use books to answer questions that comes up during sessions instead of just normal reading.

I do a lot of ppt work on O8. I have also had really good coach. «Rank» function on ppt is nice.

like if you go with what the books say and try to play in a 6m environment you're likely to get destroyed.

and i'd always watch winning players do what i thought were really wacky things with "weak" hands and wonder when they were going to go broke.

but the real deal is that equity is equity and you chop too much to throw away hands that aren't always near-nuts.

my guess is that when o8 study literature originally came out, most games were zoo type games where it was indeed correct to play for nuts where you have to withstand a tremendous amount of heat over 3 streets of play.
