And in past two months in two different casinos with two different players I had guys check/call me for two streets with #4 and #5 when it went 1/1 on 2nd draw. Way different situations for sure but I often see bizarre passive play with strong hands.

I’ve played a lot at Bellagio. This would be a bad bet for you. If the guy folded a 7 he would be so proud to show his big laydown he would always show the hand. Bellagio players love to try to see who is the biggest nit or who can make the most disciplined fold. It is absolutely as painful as it sounds.

$20/$40? Probably a different pool of players than the $80/160 or whatever goes higher.

I don't think players will open themselves up to be embarrassed at the time, because then Dynasty has opportunity to roll over a worse hand after the cards are in the muck. Sometimes in Dynasty's spot players will show their good hands and then the other guy frantically reaches into the muck to show what a good lay down he made.

I might be going against the power but have to go with my gut on this one and say that is what he had. If we could get this guy hooked up to a lie detector test I would do that.

8732 is a pretty smooth draw. I'm simply never breaking it pre unless someone else turns their hand face up. 8752 then it gets close.

I’ve been playing this game for a relatively long time now, and I’m not surprised to see that there is so much discord in this thread about whether or not it is optimal to break the 8-7 on the first draw. Some posters in here have taken very strong positions and written in terms of absolutes (“never,” “always”). I think it’s close, and I think that makes thinking players very uncomfortable. It makes me uncomfortable because it seems like such a potentially disastrous leak.

In the B 20/40, I’m not breaking the 8-7 to draw 2. That’s my line. But I will take a different line in other games.

I got ya, unless there is extensive modeling done on the situation I don't think anyone should take an absolute stance. I indicated that I thought the 87 should be kept fully recognizing that 87 is not a multi-way hand but knowing that since it is so multi-way that everyone will have difficulty making a hand due to all of the low cards out.

That said, why would a different line be taken in other games? Other games have the same amount of low cards in the deck and if there are games where guys are drawing two to T9 point me the way!
