BIC NEWS

Pokerstars is adding Badugi.

This is probably worthy of it's own thread, IMO. But I am not a regular in this forum, so I will leave that up to a mod, or other poster.
I don't understand why i cannot see anything under OTHER but 5CD, TD, HORSE & HOSE. How can I get these games in my lobby?

No, he just made a prelim announcement, because a few of us have been asking for it repeatedly. Apparently my spam email plan worked.

I have a problem opening the .exe file with winrar. It says that the application configuration is incorrect. How do I fix this?

You can try installing this - if that doesn't fix it then I'm sorry but right now I don't know the solution, though I know at least 2 other people have reported the same problem. I'll have a go at fixing it eventually but it's difficult to test when I can't actually reproduce the problem myself

Thanks. Have you considered releasing the source?

Not for that version, the code is absolutely hideous. I started a new version a couple of years ago, which was a complete rewrite with some really cool new features. If it ever sees the light of day, I'll probably release the source with it, though I only tend to work on it when I'm between jobs. So maybe next time I quit my job or get laid off I'll actually get to finish the damn thing

I didn't get laid off but I'll be making a web-based simulator available soon. It supports multiple draws (by allowing you to specify a drawing strategy for each player...which in turn allows you to evaluate different drawing strategies).

Badugi simulator has been updated and given a bit of a face lift (to the extent of my modest design skills).

Should be more functional on mobile devices especially.

Next will be adding a quiz mode.

Very nice. Here are four trials I ran.

Trial #1:
Players: 2
Draws remaining: 3
AsKhQdJc (362,017 0 800,000 45.3%)
Ah2d3c3s (437,983 0 437,983 54.7%)

After changing the As to the Ts, percentages shifted more than I thought dropping 4.1%! One live card makes a difference I guess.

Trial #2
Players: 2
Draws remaining: 3
TsKhQdJc (394,880 0 800,000 49.4%)
Ah2d3c3s (405,120 0 405,120 50.6%)

What if the Ts was not a key card?

Trial #3
Players: 2
Draws remaining: 3
AdKsQhJc (196,920 0 400,000 49.2%)
Ah2d3c3s (203,080 0 203,080 50.8%)

Trial #4
Players: 2
Draws remaining: 3
TdKsQhJc (197,895 0 400,000 49.5%)
Ah2d3c3s (202,105 0 202,105 50.5%)

Here you apparently gain 0.3% chance of winning by having an Ad instead of a Td as it is a worse Badugi.

Conclusion:
Inconclusive, but it seems to work.

i made a test calcuation with this;
http://pokervane.com/badugi_simulator

2player
1draw

a36

vs

a238

so we have 4 outs here, correct?

the results are like this;
Hand 1:
Wins Chops Badugis Equity
63,279 226 159,279 15.8%

Hand 2:
Wins Chops Badugis Equity
336,495 226 400,000 84.2%

is this correct now

because in this link http://playlowballpoker.com/badugi-strategy/draw-odds/
it says, if we have 4 outs and draw 1 card, we actually have ~8% Equity and not 15.8% as shown in the calculator....

am i missing something!?
is this chart trash?

my human logic tells me in no limit poker, if i have 4 outs on the turn in No Limit Holdem, i have rough 8% equity...

It's actually closer to 9% (8.9%), which is what you get when you divide the four outs by the 45 unseen cards.

I suspect you were using a "random" card in the fourth spot for the first player, i.e.:

In this scenario, the first player essentially gets two draws (one when the hand is filled out with a random card at the beginning of each iteration, and one in the draw). Thereby almost doubling his outs, and, therefore, his equity.

For this type of calculation, you should fill out the hand before starting the simulation, i.e.:

Ah, interesting. That makes sense. And also explains why other draw sims also had surprisingly good equity.

oki thanks for explanation, makes sense. maybe you can add this somewhere on the site as a hint? because i think a lot of people do this intuitively wrong...

Sure, I'll put a note to this effect in the help and at least link to it from the main simulator page.
