I'm fairly new to the game.

Folded from UTG to me. I open A346 in CO. Folded to BB who defends. We're HU.

D2 > D1 (me)

AA346

D2 > go low or go for aces up?

Based off my very brief experience he has a nice pair and kicker he wants to keep a lot more often than he has 3-wheel he's defending. But I don't know that for certain, of course.

Seems like pivoting into his direction where (I think?) I'm squishing his equity seems like a pretty good idea, even if it turns my hand face up.

Thoughts? Thanks

Given the stickiness of players with any type of high I would play the AA. If he has a pair it's usually not a kicker he wants to keep, he's just trying to get awe tricky on you.

Note that your hand will not be identified to him until after the turn betting has been completed

so basically on the turn whether i bet or check my hand tells him which direction i'm going, correct?

i.e. i'd check back a draw (low presumably) but bet my made hands

No I meant how many cards you draw. Someone going from D1 to D3 has AA

Some guys go from D1 to D2 but that serves absolutely no purpose. I still know what they have and they just simply reduce their odds of improving

I don’t think you should always bet made and check draws but that’s a complex topic in this game

Hero does not have to d3, he can also draw 1 to the aa to keep it disguised.

I’m fine with it as long as he still draws 2, if he draws 1 then two mediocre pair is in his range and you limit you chance to improve dramatically

If you are ahead of a lower pair his equity only increases from 23 to 26% equity...which if what he draws 2 it typically is

But we should be able to articulate what our deception accomplishes and think through it all

But in general yeah as long as he’s drawing 2

If he is D2 our deception probably means he will not value bet 2 pair on river should he be inclined to do that so it probably would be worth that slim decrease in equity vs lower pair
