What are the strategy differences in the triple draw high low split game known as ARCHIE when:

1. You need a minimum of a pair of nines to qualify for high

vs

2. You need a minimum of a pair of sixes to qualify for high?

Just played this game for the first time last night, pretty fun. When you only need 66+ to qualify for high, it makes low draws much more viable, as you can end up making a qualifying high hand with a low draw, whereas any hand with 4 unpaired cards 8 or lower going to the final draw cannot qualify for a low in 99+ to qualify. HU at least, the 66+ version plays much better in my short experience.

If the others at the game are new to Archie but are familiar with other Hi/Lo split pot games (O8, Stud 8), 99 should give you a better edge (assuming you know how to adjust yourself).

What's the rule change? I thought it was just, if no one qualifies, then the pot is chopped between players still in the hand at showdown.

Some games play where the best high wins regardless whether or not it qualifies

The Vegas/LA rule is that the high wins when there's no qualifier. This rule is much better because it encourages people to bluff more on the end.

In the 66 version you can value bet hands on the river more liberally since they can make a bluff catcher hand against you. In the 99 version a high hand should almost never bet the river unless it can 3 bet.
