Part of that same mixed game as my recent badacey post.

Predraw: I raise Q7235 from the hj, co calls, btn raises, we all call
1st draw: 2/2/1
Flop: I check to btn with 235xx where xx are offsuit high cards. Btn bets, co calls, I call (??)
2nd draw: 2/1/1
Turn: I check to btn unimproved again, btn bets, co folds, I fold

Thoughts on initial open and flop call? Should I draw to the flush or to the 7 lo?

Too loose that’s a button open for me

Definitely open button, maybe cutoff. I fold hj. Rest of the hand is probably okay. Might be right to just draw to a 7 in the first place

If you're going to open a four-low you should play it as a four-low unless you want to rep trips when you D2. And that never works so if you open four to a Seven you should almost always play it as D1. You still maintain ambiguity because you may as well have a middling two-pair hand, but opening it, calling a reraise and drawing two without an Ace is suicide.

You can fold this early, the wheel blockers make it more attractive after a fold, not opening it HJ may be a small mistake but it's a fairly junky hand and playability can be poor if you end up multiway without pure position so I get not opening it there. Not opening C/O has got to be a mistake.

A Queen-high three-flush is a piece of ****.

Yeah I would D1 if I had played it.

It depends on how the game is played but in my typical games the high hands are very sticky and a single high pair will often stick around regardless if you patted this thus you are often just fighting for your money back.

I wouldn’t object to the CO open though

Just to put some numbers to this, when we raise 2357 from HJ we will run into the following hands:

AA+ 37%
Flush Draw 16%
Seven or Better Low 3%
Four to Wheel or Six Low 21%
77%

This does not take into account any card removal effects. It would obviously lower the amount of pat lows and low draws. However, those are the hands we actually fare better against and also the % of AA+ increases. With 66 qualifier flush draws are going to qualify a lot by the river one way or another.

We have no implied odds with the hand but have to stick with any low and pay off with it.

It doesn't get dramatically better as we move over to the CO. We are not particularly helped when defending ranges get wider. We are not big favorites A36 (maybe 55%?) for low, in fact I think we are underdogs in Archie due to being behind in high.

Play hands that are likely to scoop. Fold pre. Not close.
