4/8 badugi: SB vs BTN, check-raised after 2nd draw 4/8 badugi: SB vs BTN, check-raised after 2nd draw

I'm pretty new to BBBT games. Feels like a standard spot but not sure how it should go.

4-handed game: no reads on anyone.

pre: UTG folds to me
BTN (me): I raise A 4 T K
SB: calls
and BB folds.

hand is HU

1st draw
SB: D2
Me: D1: i toss K, draw Q

Action
SB: checks
Me: bets
SB: calls

2nd draw
SB: D2
Me: D1 i toss Q, draw K

Action
SB: check
Me: bet
SB: x/r

Not sure exactly how these spots play out. Instinctively it feels like I'm not just beat but I have potentially little room to improve, given the ten-tri.

Any thoughts? Also comments on pushing the ten-tri IP vs a guy drawing 2?

Thanks

After you open, you should break down to A4 straight away and play as good D2. Your 2-card is a bigger favorite over a defending range D2 than a 3-card Ten is.

As for the turn, tricky players will x/r A23 in this spot, so I think calling to see if villain is pat isn't bad but the river then becomes player dependent,

ah, ok. my initial instinct was that a 3 card ten IP vs a guy drawing 2 keeps me at a huge advantage, which i wasn't sure i should be giving up. understanding that the 2-card actually has the equity edge over that changes a lot for me.

on that matter, i have no idea how to run equities. is there a consensus site or software that most people are using?

and yeah i have noticed certain villains check-raising with AWWx in that spot, which makes some more sense now.

thanks!

I would've played it the same up to the turn spot and definitely folding to the check-raise. This hand is the bottom of our range. We definitely don't have the right price to draw to a badugi, even if we thought any badugi is good, and even if our opponent's range is mostly 3 cards, they are probably better than our 3 card so we're drawing behind with reverse implied odds.

I would believe, though, that it's correct to draw 2 right off the bat. What's the cutoff? I have to think you'd keep an 8, right? What about a 9?

Also would you keep the ten in pot limit badugi, since you'd be more likely to take down the pot after the first draw since you can continue pot-sized?

I am keeping rougher D1 hands because you will be patting/snowing with them and that line is more credible D1 than D2, and if we break T76 to 76 we're doing worse by our equity vs the range anyway.

PL Badugi is a stupid game but if I found myself playing it I'd be doing a lot of things, including making life miserable on anybody who defends D2.

Agree w draw 2, fold to xr

You want to draw 1 with worse hands, not turn a 2draw to the nuts into a bluff

I wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions. I've played a good bit of this game both HU and multiway. From an edge standpoint, it's a lot easier to punish people for making equity mistakes. Playing against some competent leads to a good, strategic game.

QFT

some important concepts mentioned here by elec as well
But fold after CR for sure. Best case scenario your equity is almost certainly. <20% here and you’re just guessing on river
