I’m thinking about trying to get 20/40 Drawmaha Mix game going at Bellagio next week. Anyone interested in helping start the game?

I’ll help you by bumping with a question

Never played this game but I’ve been asked for strategy..so what is structure?

Betting round but no discards. Flop and then betting round, then discards. Turn then betting round. River and then final betting round. Is that all correct?

2-7 drawmaha has been in the 40-80 mix a couple times recently.

I know. The regs are finally coming around to it. It only took a year of repeated suggestions and the quick adoption in 80mix and higher.

Evolution of typical mix game player wrt drawmaha:
1. Nope, not interested in learning a new game
2. Really, I'm not interested
3. Will you please stop asking, I said no
4. Everyone else is playing it ... what are the rules again?
5. Fine, fine. I'll try it.
6. This game is stupid, why do people like it?
7. Omg, pots are huge and everyone else is more confused than me!
8. Ok, let's add it to the mix
9. This is my favorite game ever!

Yes. It's 5 card Omaha Hi with a single draw "before" the turn. Half the pot goes to the draw hand (can be any draw game).

It was in the 20/40 WSOP cash game mix all last week and if you know the basic strategy you will find it quite juicy.

Edit: both the high and 2-7 draw variants were rourtinely in the mix when I played

so like in 2-7 drawmaha the best hand would be AA237 or something? AA234? A2347?

AAxyz is a bad hand because it can never win the 5-card lowball half of the pot with a pair of Aces.

23457 is a hand which has the 5-card lowball half of the pot locked up. Then, you just want to hit the flop with something like:

775

Or, more reasonably:

K64

Not surprisingly, in a game where you get ten total cards, the primary strategy is to play for the nuts one way and freeroll the other way. Play hands which can win the 5-card lowball hand (Ten-low or better is a good target) and then hope to flop good in the Omaha high half of the pot.

lol 2-7 drawmaha

Never thought about this one. If you can get it head-ups does it seem like the value of pat tens and even jacks goes up? Slight advantage if he is drawing and then you have higher cards to make higher pairs, two pairs, straights, and flushes.

Seems like a weird game honestly.

A pat Ten or Jack would have the edge against somebody drawing. But, I don't think there's any strategic edge with the pairs and odd situations could develop where you're in very bad shape.

It's single draw and that draw takes place after the flop. So, people know their Omaha pairs/draws before discarding.

Consider this river spot.

The board is: KTT52

If you had 98742, how many bets could you put in heads-up?

Gotcha yeah that’s an awful flop. So we would need to call down two bets from here if he’s betting?

If he was drawing and checking I’d bet the turn and check down the river.

Nine low and pair of deuces. You can still scoop a jack low maybe. Never played or thought about it though.

Weird game

It's a Nine-low and a flush.

My point in this situation is that the Nine-low/flush hand can't be beat for both halves of the pot heads-up.

Either the low is good. Or, the flush is good.

Low hands have weird freerolls in this game.

A KT552 board would be totally different.

Somebody could have an 8-low or better with at least trip 5s.

Good flops are often those in which you flop a small flush draw, small straight draw, or two pair.

On a K,6,2 flop, flopping two pair - 6s and 2s - is a very good flop (because you're presumably playing a good low hand). That's obviously totally different then Omaha-high's normal strategy and confuses players who haven't thought about the game.

Yes, this kind of situation where you can have the non-nuts but never get less than half the pot HU happens not infrequently.

I've played a decent amount of 2-7 Drawmaha and find it a deep, subtle game where players who can hand-read/range villains well have a significant edge.

HU and multiway pots are significantly different in character/strategy

Is it all 2-7 now for the draw hand?

Or do still play the version with high draw too?

Both versions are played but 2-7 is more popular

For foreigners, what are the exact rules? Drawmaha/Drawmaha 2-7

I guess something like it:

1.-Deal 5 cards to any player
2.-Betting preflop
3.-Burn a Card and show the flop
4.-Betting flop
5.-Burn a card and discard in order (by position every player knows other players number of change)
6.-Show Turn without burning again
7.-Betting turn
8.-Burn card and Show river
9.-Betting the river
10.-Showdown

My questions:

1.-Is it correct how I posted?
2.-What does it happen if there are no enough cards after discard?
3.-The odd chip goes to...

in the private game I play in we play double draw in the 2-7ha and badugiha (gotta give the chasers something to go for) ie draw after the flop and then 2nd draw after turn

Yes single draw in Vegas. At Caesar’s and Aria, game is dealt 6 handed w 3 card max draw if game is full.

Only 1 burn on turn. At Bellagio turn is dealt after players declare their draws but before replacement cards are dealt out. Everywhere else turn is dealt after draws are complete.

If cards run out the muck and burns are shuffled with another burn after the shuffle.

Hope this helps.
