Because WWE network is free this week, must see 80s PPVs:

Great American Bash 1989
Starrcade 1988
Starrcade 1986
Chi-Town Rumble 1989
Survivor Series 1987
Wrestlemania III

Wrestlewar 1989 could make the list just based on Steamboat/Flair, but the rest of the card isn't very good.

Top 10 wrestlers/wrestling personalities I most respect (mostly for wrestling-related talents, but some "off-the-field" stuff enters into it as well):

1. Undertaker
2. Shawn Michaels
3. Steve Austin
4. Kurt Angle
5. Ric Flair
6. Bret Hart
7. John Cena
8. Triple H
9. Jim Ross
10. Daniel Bryan

I kept this to North American wrestlers only. I would easily throw Kobashi in here, but I am unfamiliar with some other Japanese legends and it's a little unfair to them.

I struggled with the 10th spot and feel like there are better options. Vince is an obvious one, but for whatever reason he doesn't strike my "respect" button. That's OK, he can flash his billions in front of me while laughing hysterically. I left Hogan off because I've heard far too much backstage stuff about him that I believe he's an ass. (Triple H gets some of the same heat, but frankly, I'm more dubious about those claims.) There's plenty of old-school guys that are probably deserving, too, but my top nine is set in stone (at least as far as the people, not so much the order), and picking one old-school guy out of a list of several in my mind is pretty brutal.

Anyway, this was a good 30-minute diversion from work.

Over the past two months I've been doing a little project...Watching every single match of Kobashi's that Meltzer rated ****1/2+ during his AJPW days (1990-2000). Here is my list of the top 44 matches by rating in chronological order:

*****:
10/19/90 Tsuruta & Taue & Fuchi vs. Misawa & Kawada & Kobashi
04/20/91 Misawa & Kawada & Kobashi vs. Tsuruta & Taue & Fuchi
05/22/92 Tsuruta & Fuchi & Taue vs. Misawa & Kobashi & Kawada
05/25/92 Kroffat & Furnas vs. Kobashi & Kikuchi (All Asia Tag)
06/28/92 Misawa & Kobashi vs. Tsuruta & Taue (World Tag)
07/04/93 Kawada & Taue & Ogawa vs. Misawa & Kobashi & Akiyama
07/29/93 Hansen vs. Kobashi
12/3/93 Kawada & Taue vs. Misawa & Kobashi (Tag League)
05/21/94 Misawa & Kobashi vs. Kawada & Taue (World Tag Titles)
01/19/95 Kawada vs Kobashi
01/24/95 Misawa & Kobashi vs. Kawada & Taue (World Tag, draw)
06/09/95 Taue & Kawada vs. Misawa & Kobashi (World Tag)
01/20/97 Misawa vs. Kobashi (Triple Crown)
10/31/98 Misawa vs. Kobashi (Triple Crown)
06/11/99 Misawa vs. Kobashi (Triple Crown)

****3/4:
09/31/93 Williams vs. Kobashi
03/11/95 Misawa & Kobashi vs. Williams & Ace (World Tag)
07/26/98 Kobashi vs. Akiyama (Triple Crown)
01/07/99 Kobashi & Akiyama vs. Kawada & Taue (World Tag)
03/06/99 Kobashi & Akiyama vs. Misawa & Ogawa (World Tag)

****2/3:
09/03/94 Williams vs. Kobashi (Triple Crown)

***1/2:
05/26/90 Misawa & Kobashi & Taue vs. Tsuruta & Kabuki & Fuchi
01/12/92 Tsuruta & Fuchi & Ogawa vs. Misawa & Kobashi & Kawada
01/31/93 Kobashi & Kikuchi vs. Ogawa & Akiyama (All Asia Tag)
06/27/93 Misawa & Kobashi & Kikuchi vs. Kawada & Taue & Ogawa
10/23/93 Kawada vs. Kobashi
12/10/94 Misawa & Kobashi vs. Williams & Ace (Tag League)
04/13/95 Kawada vs. Kobashi (Carny)
12/9/95 Misawa & Kobashi vs. Kawada & Taue (Tag Final)
03/02/96 Kawada & Taue vs. Kobashi & Akiyama (World Tag)
10/21/97 Misawa vs. Kobashi (Triple Crown)

****1/4 matches:
01/10/93 Misawa & Kobashi & Kikuchi vs. Taue & Akiyama & Fuchi
11/29/92 Misawa & Kawada vs. Kobashi & Baba
07/05/92 Fuchi & Ogawa vs. Kobashi & Kikuchi (All Asia Tag Titles)
02/02/92 Tsuruta & Taue & Fuchi vs. Misawa & Kobashi & Kawada
01/10/93 Misawa & Kobashi & Kikuchi vs. Taue & Akiyama & Fuchi
06/1/93 Taue & Kawada vs. Misawa & Kobashi (World Tag)
02/13/94 Baba & Misawa & Kobashi vs. Kawada & Taue & Fuchi
03/31/96 Misawa vs. Kobashi (Carny?)
11/23/97 Misawa & Akiyama vs. Kobashi & Ace
06/04/99 Kobashi & Kawada vs. Misawa & Taue

**** matches:
11/24/96 Misawa & Akiyama vs. Kobashi & Patriot (Tag League)
04/20/96 Ace & Albright & Kawada vs. Misawa & Kobashi & Akiyama
04/20/97 Misawa vs. Kobashi

Best match of the bunch and greatest match of all time is 6/9/95. Kobashi's best singles performance is 10/31/98 (vs. Misawa). Kobashi's best singles match is 1/20/97 (vs. Misawa), which is ironically not rated 5* by Meltzer. Match you'd most enjoy if you don't know anything about Kobashi, w/Kikuchi vs. Can-Ams on 5/25/92.

15 5* matches. 5 fewer 5* matches than Meltzer gave during this time period. Kobashi has a total of 23 5* matches from Meltzer.

Other matches I'd consider 5* from Kobashi:
vs. Misawa - 3/1/03
w/Go Shiozaki vs. Nakajima/Sasaki - 11/5/05
vs. Joe - ROH Kobashi vs. Joe

Ongoing projects:
10 matches deep in watching all Lesnar ppv matches
20ish matches deep in watching every Bryan Danielson ROH match and watching all of his WWE ppv matches.

Top 10 dumbest WWE match decision bookings of 2015:

I'm not going to be criticizing any dumb storyline lead-ups to a match or matches where you wonder why the match is taking place. But this list is "given that this match is taking place, why the **** did that person win?"

I'm sure I missed some stuff, so let me know what I missed.

10) HHH over Sting (Wrestlemania, March 29) - It isn't higher on the list, because I really didn't give too much of a **** about the match to begin with. But really, if your plan involves giving Sting a title shot later down the line, it's probably best to give him a win here.

9) Undertaker/Kane over Bray Wyatt/Luke Harper (Survivor Series, November 22) - We're celebrating 25 years of The Undertaker. Perfect time to get some heat on the Wyatt Family? I guess not. Let's have the two old guys go over. We can always import some other old guys from ECW to make the Wyatts look strong I suppose.

8) Sheamus wins ladder match (MITB, June 14) - I don't think there has been a duller winner in history, certainly not one who held the briefcase for an extended length of time. How much fun would Kofi and New Day have been?

7) Jushin Thunder Liger over Tyler Breeze (Takeover: Brooklyn, August 22) - Breeze needed the win; Liger hasn't been back since. What the **** was the point of having Liger win here? And now Breeze is on the main roster on the fast track to Fandango territory.

6) Bad News Barrett over Neville (King of the Ring, April 28) - Completely neutered the massively over "Bad News" gimmick and a blown opportunity to give Neville something concrete to build on. Not even sure why they bothered having this event.

5) Finn Bálor/Samoa Joe over Colin Cassady/Enzo Amore (NXT, September 30) - In the final show before the Takeover special that has a main event already scheduled (i.e. they don't need the star power of their champion), they have two singles guys go over an established tag team. In the process, they keep Enzo and Big Cass off of a second consecutive Takeover special.

4) John Cena over Kevin Owens (Battleground, July 19) - In the "rubber match" of their feud, Cena keeps the title that he completely doesn't need given that he starts a feud with Rollins the very next day. Owens, who has been a great champion with any title, comes away with nothing.

3) Baron Corbin/Rhyno over Jason Jordan/Chad Gable (Takeover: Respect, October 7) - The Dusty Rhodes Classic should have been a signature moment for a tag team that hadn't quite reached the titles yet. How they booked anyone but Cass/Enzo or Jordan/Gable to win the tournament blows my mind. Jordan and Gable are going to be mega-stars, but the venue to start that push should have been here.

2) Roman Reigns over Alberto Del Rio/Sheamus/Rusev/King Barrett (Smackdown, December 3) - Here you have the WWE champion, the US champion who just beat Cena clean, the King of the Ring, and a guy who entered Wrestlemania on a tank all working together. And Reigns won. Even Lesnar wasn't booked this strong. It's not #1 only because it happened on Smackdown.

1) Roman Reigns wins Royal Rumble (Royal Rumble, January 25) - How could they not learn from last year? In the birthplace of America, they were chanting for the Russian. Good job WWE. At least the resulting Rollins cash in two months later was awesome.

I'm sure that Sting was booked to win until they thought that HHH was going to face The Rock next year. In a twist of fate, that's not happening so lol @ HHH.

I'm a fan of Kevin Steen and have been for years now. After he lost that rubber match, I completely forgot about him. He could've been a huge star and instead he got to beat Ryback for the IC belt. Talk about a step down.

More irony in that the worst booking decision of the year turned into the best booking decision and moment of the year with Seth cashing in @ WM. Next year's Rumble should be completely predictable and I hope that it is. Even though it's obvious Brock is winning, it's somebody that will at least get cheered.

No plan to give Sting a title shot down the line existed. Sting actually thought that Mania match was likely his last match, and he thinks putting people over on the way out is the right thing to do.

Sheamus won the MITB, I think, because he was a boring winner. I know everyone loves HHH now but he seems to really believe being boring is a great heel tactic; he was a trailblazer of the boring 20 minute promo and loves Sheamus.
