The first episode was packed! It had Rocky and Dwayne. It had Andre the Giant. The Wild Samoans. Even an appearance by Uncle Sheiky Baby.

And it absolutely sucked! I would think the Rock of the late 90s would cut a scathing promo on this show had he seen it.

Never the less, I'm probably going to watch again just to see what other wrestling characters show up. Perhaps most interestingly, he doesn't paint his father in a very strong light, which goes along with much of what I've read about the Soul Man.

Anybody else watching?

RIP Waffles.

There's a rumor that if this show ends up somehow being a hit, NBC is going to push forward with a sequel about Rock's adult life called 30 Rock.

Watched it. Will continue to watch. Is it going to win any awards? I don't think so. I like the actor/comedian set to play Vince.

Really really hate the casting for Andre

Doesn't seem like there are a lot of actors around that can step into that role.

Second episode was a bit better. The Ric Flair caricature was so over the top that it was actually funny.

So the youngest version of Rock in this show is supposed to be 10 years old. Since he was born on 5/2/72, that would make this 1982.

I noticed on this week's episode, they were mourning the passing of Peter Maivia (4/6/37 to 6/13/82 via Wiki).

First thought is that I remember Maivia still being very active in some network stuff from the late 70's and not looking that old. Apparently, he died young, only 45 years old.

But then also, he was just 34 when he became a grand-father. Rocky Johnson, his son in law, was just seven years younger than him.

And if Wiki is right, Ata Johnson, Peter's daughter and Rock's mother, was born 10/25/48...which would make Peter just 11 years old when he had his first child!

Going further down this rabbit hole, I thought Maivia's birthdate was wrong at first, but it turns out that he married Ata's mother and 1953, when he was still just 16 years old and his wife (Rock's grandmother) a full 10 years his senior.

Don’t think the rock and his mom are blood related to the high chief . Think he was the rocks step grand father

Yes, that's what I was trying to clarify with the last post. Still seems like he became a step-father to a five year old girl at 16.

I don't think most of the guys in that episode were with Vince in 1982. Maybe that's why only Andre had the action figure, which also didn't come out until a few years later. I think they're only concerned with historical accuracy with Rock's immediate family.

The wrestling figure they show in Young Rock looks to be the Popy figure that was released in Japan in 1982.

But these figures still would have had nothing to do with Vince though, right?

Was Vince Jr even in power in 82?

Best casting so far was Macho Mans gf. Her name wasn’t Elizabeth but the actress looked just like Miss Elizabeth

Like this season a lot more. Still has the same faults, but you find out some interesting things, there's a young Roman Reigns cameo that's pretty funny and the season has dealt with a lot of his father's issues in a more honest way.

Colt Cabana plays Brooklyn Brawler. What a bit of casting.

Chad Frost has to be Sean Michaels.

Seems to be the only guy from that generation not in the cast.

Also was injured at the time in question.
