Interested to hear what stands out in peoples minds for this year.........

Of the top of my head ......

Cotto getting revenge,LOVED IT

Fraizer passing away was a sad day for me........

Will have loads more once I have a good think about it...

British boxing got killed in December ,not many champions left over here after this year.

High points:

two fighters I hate getting beat, Degale against Groves and Khan and Peterson (It probably says bad things about my personality that I take such pleasure from these defeats)

Low points:

The Haye-Klitschko fight was obviously awful. The scoring in Lara-Williams and Chisora-Helnius was criminal.

High points:

Angulo vs. Kirkland, probably watched it on demand 15+ times. Marquez regaining respect from the community regardless of the official score. Obviously Cotto raping Margarito. Sergio and Canelo continuing to progress.

Low points:

Floyd beating Ortiz the way he did, looked like **** for boxing in an already declining sport. More BS between Manny and Floyd. Lara-Williams.

Most memorable moment of the year was the passing of a legend. It's both tragic and sad but I'm very happy and surprised about how it was handled in the media and all the love and respect that was shown towards Frazier.

Some of the things that stick out from the "big names":

high
Miguel Cottos revenge.

Juan Manuel Marquez shocking the world and reminding us we've been living in fantasyland.

Kirkland Angulo. Wolak Rodriguez. Berto Ortiz.

B-hop beating Pascal.

Brian Viloria, Super 6 ending, Orlando Salido.

low
David Haye and pinkytoe drama.

Some horrible scoring. Lara-Williams as mentioned sticks out the most.

Solis having a good round and then having his fatass collapse and destroy his leg before vitalis first good test in years even began.

Bob Arum(.)

Mares-Agbeko one. Russel Mora is an idiot.

B-hop vs Dawson. Just ****ing lol.

Bradley ducking Khan.

Martinez not having a truly legit fight all year.

ortiz vs floyd ending and aftermath. pac vs mosley.

roy jones still fighting.

Pretty good year all in all. Not as great as it could have been but it was ok. The huge fights didn't deliver but some of the smaller ones truly did.

Hopefully we get Pac vs Floyd, Martinez vs a big name, Vitali KO haye, Gamboa vs Donaire, Lopez huge comeback, B-hop schooling Bute, Ward schooling Dirrell, Khan vs Bradley, Viloria vs Marquez, Berto vs Ortiz 2, JMM vs Maidana, Morales and RJJ retiring on a good note, Cotto vs Canelo, Bob Arum retiring (not dying please) and much much more for 2012.

Sergiy Dzinziruk wasn't a huge name but imho it was a legit fight, if at least convincing of Martinez being the man to beat in the division as iirc Dzinziruk had never been knocked down in his amateur or professional career and Sergio both knocked him down 3 times and completely dismantled him.

It's all relative. I put higher expectation on a #3 p4p guy than i do others in regards of matchmaking.

Dzinziruk is not a bum by any means; hes had some good wins at 154. But he wasn't the best at 154 and im not even sure he ever had a fight at mw before.

Lows: Mayweather Ortiz. It could have been such an entertaining fight. It was headed that way.
Hopkins Dawson. Horrible.
Every significant heavyweight fight.

Highs: Andre Ward winning super six with Carl Froch showing true sportsmanship in the end.

The Amir Khan HBO hype train being derailed.
Cotto beating Margarito easily.
Kirkland Angulo. Great fight.

what's the FOTY for you guys? I didnt get to see more than 15 fights, all the ones that are on HBO on demand right now pretty much plus friday night fights on espn when its on and im at home

might be khan peterson for me, most of the other fights pretty bad

kirkland angulo was great for a while but short and one sided after 1st 2 minutes

i guess this is kind of stupid for me to even comment on since i missed so many fights besides the big ones

Larry Merchant's ''if i was 50 years''

As previously stated, the big fights didn't deliver as much, but the smaller one were insane. I thought Cotto-Margarito was pretty good and an important fight as well.

Don King and Arum still not dead? Damn.

Sorry for the double post, but as Dan rafael posted on espn, the best youtube video of the year is Klitschko's home video after the David Haye fight.

I've been watching HBO's "Best boxing of 2011" and it's pretty fun to watch them all again even though the majority of the good fights happened in the last quarter or so of the year so it's nothing new. Some thoughts:

Angulo Kirkland: awesome as before, nothing new to talk about on this one it was just awesome seeing Kirkland pull himself back up and demolish Angulo. If he hadn't it almost certainly would have been a career stopper or at least set him back a ton considering his previous first round knockout at the hands of a lesser opponent. I like kirkland, his story, and having a female trainer in a sport that is obviously male dominated. I would say this was fight of the year but I can really only say round 1 was round of the year because after round one it was fairly one sided.

Mayweather vs Ortiz: This is just sad, I kind of liked Victor before the fight and was obviously rooting for him just because I want to see Floyd get beat. I paid for the PPV when it happened and was really bitter about how it ended because it seemed like total bull**** at the time and spending 60 dollars to see it end the way it did was just disappointing. Watching it again though I probably would have done the same thing Floyd did, Ortiz' headbutt was so fragrant and despicable he deserved to get whacked. This one is a total shame though because Victor seemed to pull it back together in round 4 after a ****ty round 3 and it seemed to me it was going to turn into a good fight. In the post fight interview Floyd says he'll give Ortiz a rematch, which probably won't happen, but I wish it would because imo Ortiz was going to give him a good fight. I guess I should also note that I don't think Joe Cortez did anything wrong, watching it again he clearly puts his hands together and says they are back to boxing, it really was Ortiz that decided to keep apologizing and got smashed.

Khan vs Peterson: This one was controversial because the ref really made some questionable calls. He ruled a Peterson slip as a knockdown that was clearly a trip over Khan's legs but what won the fight for Peterson were multiple foul calls due to Khans elbows. I actually agree with these calls, it's rare to call that but Khan during the whole fight is essentially pushing off with his elbows the whole time and it's just a joke, it's a rule and you should be called on it if your going to break it three times per round for a whole fight. Khan bitched about it being a home town advantage but watching it again Peterson deserved it, the rounds he won he won more decisively and seemed to do more damage throughout the fight.

JMM vs Pac: This fight is kind of sad as well because I think we all wanted JMM to win considering the first two fights and JMM's heart. Nacho though JMM was winning, most viewers thought JMM was winning, even Freddie Roach thought Pac was losing, and yet two of the judges had Pac win on the cards, one of which was way off. I scored it myself the other night and it was one of the hardest fights to score but I gave it to JMM by two rounds and that included two rounds I gave to Pac that I would have scored evenly if they didn't discourage it so much. Boxing just isn't fair and it's a joke that judges like Throwbridge are allowed to sit front row and give every round to the big name. That said it was reallllllly hard to score at least 5 of the rounds so I can forgive the guy that gave it to Pac closely, but Throwbridge giving it to Pac by a big margin is a bit unforgiveable imo.

I haven't watched the Pascal fight but I'll give my thoughts on that one when I do, it's just hard to get excited about the division right now I suppose.

Let's hope 2012 brings some great fights. Hopefully Sergio and Canelo can get some big name fights that show how great they are. A great Floyd fight would be awesome too but that's alot to ask for and obviously Pac Money would be a straight up miracle. I want to see Chavez lose too, I don't know why but he seems cocky and I havn't been impressed with him.

Cool writeup thrasher789. I agree with most except i have no interest in seeing Ortiz fight Floyd again. Floyd fights are limited and far apart. If it's between something absurd like a Guerrero fight or Ortiz i would be OK with it, but not if theres someone credible as the alternative.

No doubt, and obv Ortiz won't get a rematch but when I watched it a couple nights ago I thought it could have been a good fight if it hadnt ended like it did. Let's hope for a great mayweather fight this year though.
