WWE's 50 Greatest Tag Teams WWE's 50 Greatest Tag Teams

Here's another list before that might need updating since WWE compiled it back in 2012 but I'll share it anyway.

Criteria:

1. Only WWE teams were eligible.
2. Teams were rated only on their accomplishments while in WWE.
3. Eligibility began with the first recognized World Tag Team Champions, Luke Graham & Tarzan Tyler, who won the titles on June 3, 1971.
4. Rankings were based on everything from longevity to cultural impact. Personal biases may have also crept in.

Quote:
50. The Bushwhackers
49. The Soul Patrol
48. Paul London & Brian Kendrick
47. The Twin Towers
46. The Headshrinkers
45. The Moondogs
44. Booker T & Goldust
43. Killer Bees
42. Powers of Pain
41. Jeri-Show
40. The World's Greatest Tag Team
39. The Bodydonnas
38. U.S. Express
37. Team Lay-Cool
36. The Steiners
35. The Legacy
34. The Foreign Legion
33. Kane & X-Pac
32. MNM
31. Too Cool
30. The Mega Powers
29. The Brain Busters
28. Colossal Connection
27. The Quebecers
26. Rated-RKO
25. Los Guerreros
24. The Smoking Gunns
23. The Natural Disasters
22. John Morrison & The Miz
21. The Nasty Boys
20. Team Hell No
19. Money, Inc.
18. D-Generation X
17. Mr. Fuji & Professor Toru Tanaka
16. The Brothers of Destruction
15. Strike Force
14. The Rock 'N' Sock Connection
13. The Blackjacks
12. The APA
11. The Rockers
10. The Dudley Boyz
9. The Wild Samoans
8. Legion of Doom
7. The Valiant Brothers
6. The British Bulldogs
5. The Hardy Boyz
4. The New Age Outlaws
3. Demolition
2. The Hart Foundation
1. Edge & Christian
What do you guys think? Are there any teams you would substitute in?

I'd at least have State Patrol in this list somewhere. Get rid of Bodydonnas.

The frightening thing is I’m pretty sure New Day belongs top 20 now, possibly near the low teens.

Come at me.

New Day is exactly the team I was thinking of when I made the thread. They got the merch sales and I've even read they've spiked ratings when they're on. It's funny WWE has the reputation of not being a tag team territory but there's been a good number of great teams in its history.

Nah, that’s not a hot take. I’d probably have them 11th.

I hate much of the list, though its top 10 is reasonable.

Strangely, I think it manages to underrate Too Cool even though I have nothing but disdain for them.

How the **** is Team Hell No #20 on a list compiled in 2012?

I'd legit have New Day in the top 10 if the list were made now.

The teams or rankings?

Wasn't a fan of theirs either though I admit they were over. The author said they considered the team of Tony Garea and Dean Ho but I see the team of Tony Garea and Rick Martel mentioned most often.

The rankings. So much of the 11-50 ordering looks like it was spit out by random.org.

Like "We gotta place this team in the rankings somewhere".

In a list that only considers WWE contributions, I do think that gap between the LOD and the Steiners is far too big.

Only edge I think LOD has over Steiners is main eventing house shows.

Yep. Like, I do think LOD were a bigger deal, but they had little in terms of longevity. I suppose they have to get some credit for their late '90s work, but in the early '90s these two teams would be nearly neck-and-neck.

Garea and Martel were very good/popular and should be ranked higher than than Strike Force (who are way overrated at #15).

Come to think of it LOD's runs combined were only 3 yrs.

Read that the pops they received were big as Hogan's. But Garea/Martel was the best Martel's teams, no?

I doubt they got pops as big as Hogan. But, they were popular with younger fans, especially Martel who was just 25.

Garea was older but he was a WW(W)F mainstay like Jay Strongbow or Ivan Putski. So, he was widely popular. That's why he won five tag team titles with four partners.

Just for some anecdotal evidence, Garea and Martel were the first big baby face tag team I remember watching when I was growing up and was a huge fan of them as a 7 year old. Being 7 is a guess by the way.

I recall cheering like a crazy person when I saw them win the titles for the Wild Samoans at the Spectrum.

I wasn’t there live, without getting too in the weeds, back then the Spectrum house shows on Saturday night used to be showed live on TV in the market

Ah! On a related note check your PMs.

2 glaring omissions would be:

The Dream Team - Valentine and Beefcake. They had tremendous heat, and held the titles.

Volkoff and Shiek - See above reasoning.

Definitely agree with Eddy on both. When they're scraping bottom to include a worthless team like the Bodydonnas, they surely should have included those two. For that matter I'd have included a team like the Rougeau Brothers well before the Bodydonnas too, but Dream Team and Volkoff/Sheik for certain.

Co-sign on the Rougeau Brothers and Dream Team but Volkoff and Sheik are listed as The Foreign Legion.
