1987 Legends Battle Royal 1987 Legends Battle Royal

If you have the WWE network this is a worthwhile watch. All these wrestling legends from the 30s (that's right) and 40s got together and the WWF had a battle royal for them in Oct 1987. Most of these guys you never heard of, some ring a bell and there are a few names you have heard of. But what I got the most kick out of was when they were announcing the participants and they were making their way to the ring, there was (for whatever reason) a man standing at ringside eyeballing these ageing wrestlers as they make their way up the ring stairs. One of the wrestlers named "Baron" was making his way and by chance the man had turned his head away and was yakking at one of the wrestlers in the ring when Baron gave him a hard swat to the back of his head. The man quickly turned his head and his look on his face was totally "WTF?", and you can tell this was completely unscripted and Baron may have noticed the way that dumbass was giving his peers that stupid look. Check it out,,its quite funny.

I missed the part w/ the fan so I'd have to give it a look again. The pre and post interviews of the legends were cool. Al Costello of the Fabulous Kangaroos participating stood out to me most.

Yes I agree with you about Al Costellos interview, a very well, soft spoken man that reeked of a true gentleman. He is someone I had never heard of before either, its sad that 95 % of the particpants are mostly dead now, Bockwinkle was probably the youngest one there and hes dead too.

I just fired this up because I was very interested in this only to discover that I had already watched it. Being an older WWF fan I knew most of these guys but there were still a couple that I had never heard of.

With regards to the "Baron" guy, that was Baron Mikel Scicluna, who was in that territory forever. The Baron actually wrestled Bruno for the title at least once and may have even wrestled Bob Backlund for it as well. Like a lot of the guys from the 70's and early 80's they started out as big names but slowly faded into enhancement talent. He would be in the same category as SD Jones, Iron Mike Sharpe, and Tony Garea. Im sure there are others who I cant recall of the top of my head, but I think you get the picture

I just watched it again and was so impressed with the interviews they gave after the match, unfortunately with the exception of Freddy Blassie (who in my view was the greatest WWF manager) and Bockwinkle, there was no graphic of the name of some of these wrestlers names so you don't know whos talking, but they all speak so well and are highly respectful of the new generation (at the time) of wrestlers. They also all speak of how much fun they had travelling the world and wrestling. They all speak so well and it was a joy to watch!
