I do wonder when this changed along the way. I remember back in 1997 that the prevailing theory among the dirt sheets going into the Royal Rumble was, "of course Shawn Michaels wins the title. They're in San Antonio." And he did. At some point they just flipped their thinking on this. I'm very unconvinced by the notion that the changed position is good because the hometown wrestler getting beaten will draw crowd heat or whatever.

If it’s real, it’s hard to watch. Like when a player with a concussion goes back on the field in old football games.

If it’s fake, which it seems it’s not, it’s just a strange stiry that’s not enjoyable.

Yeah, what comes to mind is Jericho gingerly putting HHH in the Walls of Jericho - at HHH's insistence, per Jericho's book - after HHH tore his quad. Except that was HHH taking one move, and you could tell Jericho was doing it as gently as possible. So this ridiculousness is at another level.

I mean, it worked. I now accept him as a mega-babyface in a way that I couldn't before. I doubt I'm alone in this. To the extent that his agony could have been worth it, I'd say he definitely got full value out of it.

At least it sounds like the recovery time on this injury is 5-6 months, which allows him the timing needed to potentially return to win the Rumble and ultimately become the one to take the belt off of Reigns at Mania. Though really he should just be given a Cody in the Bank briefcase after last night and shouldn't have to win the Rumble.
