Watching the main event of Canadian Stampede now. Did Meltzer give this match 5 stars? It deserves it imo.

He just gave it 4.25 stars. He also only gave Bret-Owen from WM X 4.75 stars. He's only given out five 5-star ratings ever to WWE matches.

Just watched that two days ago myself and I agree with Meltzer. Match leaves a lot to be desired.

Also just watched Rock vs Austin from WM 19 for first time ever. I see lots of people give that ***** as well but those have gotta be huge Austin/Rock marks. Rock works over Austin's leg for a solid 3-5 minutes and Austin totally no sells it when he starts on offense again. Decent enough match but lost my attention a few times.

And agaisnt my better judgment I watched HBK/Taker from 26. Match is garbage. 25 is the second best in WWE history.

So, just watched the World Class December 25 show that's on the network. It's amazing how intense the crowd was for this drizzling ****s product.

How the **** was David Von Erich scheduled to beat Flair for the World Title? Kid's promos on this show make Curtis Axel look great on the mic. Then I Google him and he's supposedly well known for his stick work at the time?

In David & WCCW's defense, this territory really caught fire later that night when Hayes turned on Kerry during the NWA Title bout... things in WCCW, including the talent surrounding the VE boys, really went sky high from there.

Agreed. I'm a huge Austin mark and to be honest, I absolutely hated the match. Austin did almost die the night before, though, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with the match's suckage.

SummerSlam 1993 has such a stupid ending. All the faces come out to celebrate with Luger after he beats Yokozuna by count out. Why would they have this huge celebration when he doesn't win the title?

I was just watching that earlier. It really is terrible. I watched that show live and was rooting for Luger, and thought, "WTF, why are they all smiling and happy? He didn't accomplish anything."

Speaking of things that make no sense, I rewatched Y2J/Rock at No Mercy 2001 for the WCW title. The build was essentially Jericho could never win the big one. There was a Smackdown! before the PPV where they both make fun of Stephanie back and forth.

So during the end of the match, Stephanie runs down to the ring for no reason. She hates them both. Distracts the ref and puts a chair in the ring. Rock yanks her into the ring, gives her a Rock Bottom and gets up only for Jericho to hit a skull crushing finale to win.

It made no sense for her to be out there. It never lead to anything from my knowledge. In fact, at the next real PPV the Rock was WCW champ again and I can't find how it happened via wikipedia.

On the Raw before SummerSlam '95, Bulldog turned heel to help Mabel as they all attacked Diesel. At SummerSlam '95, Mabel cuts a promo early in the show about "royal plans" and basically says, "the biggest royal plan is yet to come tonight. What you saw on Monday with the British Bulldog was nothing compared to the plan you're going to see play out tonight." Then the broadcast team speculates all show about what that plan could be, likely attempting some shifty sleight of hand to distract us from the fact that we were stuck watching a ****ing main event at a big four PPV between Diesel and Mabel. And then there was no royal plan whatsoever. No twist, nothing. It's like they just wanted us to believe, "Oh no, don't worry, we know the match is going to suck but we're going to save it and make it interesting." And then they lied.

Ah, thank you.

The match itself was pretty enjoyable. Those two had great chemistry, it's just the ending made me go "what?".

From Scott Keith's 1994 Royal Rumble rant:

Quote:
Vince deadpans, as the entire match (and indeed his promotion) falls apart in the ring: “It appears that the power of the urn is escaping, and with it the Undertaker’s powers”. I swear to god he actually said that without a trace of irony.
I laughed.

Late to the party/slow pony or whatever, but just realized I needed to pay for an XBOX 360 live subscription to watch WWE network there. So it's effectively a 50% rate hike (I never use my XBOX online). Hopefully a Wii U app comes out eventually, otherwise I may buy a Roku out of spite.

Well the IC title matches involving Razor, Jarrett, HBK, Douglas were plenty good in 1995. And in ringwork, the Bret Hart matches were generally good, while simultaneously having these ridiculous underlying angles and general WTF to them.

PPV1 - Diesel (c) vs. Bret - wrestlers keep running into the ring and attacking the wrestlers, leading Earl Hebner to continually declare that the match must continue. But then all of these interfering wrestlers finally all pour in at once and Earl shrugs and goes "yeah fine, we can't really keep going with this I guess, they seem pretty determined."
PPV2: "I Quit" Match - Bret vs. Backlund: Bret declared the winner without Backlund ever actually saying "I quit." Everyone plays it off like that's normal.
PPV3: Bret vs. Hakushi - okay this was solid, no complaints from me about this one. Later in the show, Bret vs. Lawler - Bret jobs to Lawler.
PPV4: Bret vs. Lawler - Bret FINALLY wins a blowoff match, thank God. This feud had started two years earlier FFS.
PPV5: Bret...wrestles a dark match. So does Undertaker. Henry Godwinn wrestles a singles match on the main card. Seems legit.
PPV6: Bret vs. Yankem - "Okay, you can beat Lawler. BUT CAN YOU BEAT HIS HAND-PICKED EVIL DENTIST?" Holy ****, the Lawler thing still wasn't going to go away.
PPV7: Bret vs. Lafitte - Alright alright, nice job of dispatching of the evil dentist. BUT NOW A REAL LIFE PIRATE HAS STOLEN YOUR JACKET! Can you get it back or not?
PPV8: Bret is in his second PPV dark match of the year. Against the evil dentist. Yokozuna vs. Mabel (heel vs. heel) is on the main card. It ends via hug.
PPV9/10: Bret was back in the world title scene and put on great matches to close out the year. No complaints there. But **** he sure had to pay his dues to get back up to this point.
