Lol. I think I like that match. Savage tying Crush up was really lol.

That was 28 years ago today. I went over to my friend's house that morning. They had one of those massive satellite dishes which somehow could zap in the PPVs. But there was no sound. So my friend and I had no clue what the stipulations of the match were.

That was supposed to be the fiercest blood feud on the card. That ending, also blowing off the feud, completely undercuts the deeply personal nature of the grudge. It was a worse version of Last Man Standing, which is also a bad stip that leads almost exclusively to boring matches.

I'm not sure that there's a single Attitude Era show that doesn't have some ****ing witless goober in the audience holding up an "I'D RATHER BE IN CHYNA HAR HAR HAR" sign. Wrestling fans sure are the best.

Obviously I understand that they wanted to give Matt Bloom a name starting with A in order to facilitate the T&A team name, but...how the hell did they ever land on ****ing Albert?

Prince Albert, obv.

What would you pick for him?
**WWE NETWORK THREAD** Quote
04-03-2022 , 03:39 PM
Well I wouldn't do the infantile T&A name to begin with, but if I was stuck naming him something that started with A, I would google a list and then let random.org pick one from it, which would likely result in an upgrade.

The exercise of trying to pick something better than Albert is like Costanza asking Jerry to come up with a baby name better than Seven.

Seven is an awesome baby name.

Didn't know you were so anti Albert! I actually think its fitting of him, pierced cock or not.

You like Allen and Alvin and Adam and Abraham better? Lol

I also thought he was around before teaming with Test, but not confident in that.

I mean, if your birth name was Albert, and you actually choose to go by Albert rather than by Al (or AC), I don't know WTF you're doing. It's just one of those names like Marvin that doesn't need to exist.

I'm truly overjoyed that we haven't hand 22 years of Al Pujols.

By the way, as name grievances go...

I've kept watching. He debuted by coming out anonymously and helping ambush Ernie Ladd. Then, the next week, his manager said he was the One Man Gang. Maybe there's somehow more to come, but as far as I can tell, he just got a name slapped on him like everyone else does. And even his debut was the opposite of being a One Man Gang since he was ganging up with other people (Afa and Sika I think).

You would have been fine with it if that's what he was all along. You're just used to it. Not a chance you would be saying, "mother****er goes by Al?!"

"Mike Trout" would be hitting your ear wrong also if he'd been going by Michael for all this time.

But Betty, when she calls him, she can call him Al.

Adam Bomb gets squashed by Earthquake at WM X in less than a minute. I didn't remember the part where they had a rematch on Raw a couple of weeks later and Earthquake beats him again.

Earthquake was out of the company a month later, so his quick 1994 run basically existed entirely to bury Adam Bomb. I always thought Bryan Clark had potential, and it just went nowhere.

Mr. Perfect, as guest referee, screws Lex Luger out of the title at WM X. On a subsequent Raw, Gorilla Monsoon interviews Perfect and demands answers. As he tries to filibuster his way through the question, Perfect blurts out, "I was trying to be biased!" Clearly meant unbiased. Obviously a flub, but not one that I thought too much of.

On the following Raw, he calls in during a match and ****ing says it again. Vince yelled at him, "You WERE biased!" The whole thing made me think that he probably somehow didn't know what "biased" means.

Impossible. I've always heard that guy was perfect.

Reminds me of the story Lanny Poffo tells, where he and Perfect were going on Regis & Kathie Lee and Regis starts raging to Poffo because he wanted to set up a putting contest against Perfect on stage and Perfect (pretty obviously correctly) was refusing to do it.

I've always been pretty dubious of that story though, given that Regis was seemingly a real wrestling fan and I would expect him to understand that Perfect couldn't risk missing a putt on TV.

It would be like asking the Dude Perfect guys to nail a trick shot on live TV.

In early 1982, Mid-South is so far above Mid-Atlantic and WCCW that it increasingly feels like I'm just sitting through the latter two so that I can actually get to the good stuff. I'm resistant to giving up on those two territories entirely because I'm under the impression that they improve, but that's my assessment of the early 1982 landscape. Mid-South is excellent stuff.

It’s wild to me that you can stomach that much of the old stuff at all.

But speaking of old school, LKJ should really appreciate the run that FTR is currently on. Their matches against the Young Bucks and Briscoes were phenomenal.

Beyond stomaching it, 1982 Mid-South is likely some of the best wrestling I could watch today that I haven't already seen. It's also probably the material I'm the least spoiled on. I'm long-term spoiled in that I know that some wrestlers go on to become industry legends and some don't, but the good material isn't strictly limited to them. Bob Roop is one of the top champions now, I'd definitely never heard of him before and he doesn't go on to big things, but he's an enjoyable part of the show. Ernie Ladd is a HOFer, but was before my day and I didn't previously appreciate how great he was. I wish early Mid-Atlantic and WCCW had 20% of Mid-South's creative direction.
