Not sunset flip. I cant think of what its called when they're back to back with arms locked and one rolls the other over the top into a pin.
Backslide?

I believe this is how Steamboat pinned Flair in the third fall of the epic 58 minute Clash match.

Not quite IMO, even though he had the arms cinched up the way a wrestler does when they execute a backslide.

I believe the 24/7 championship has proven that nobody...NOBODY can escape a blind roll up.

The schoolboy always looks like the easiest conventional pin to escape from. It always just looks like the person could roll through.

Billy Jack Haynes defeated Hercules via backslide at The Big Event in 1986. So there's that.

Also here's Shawn Michaels being pinned via backslide in 1991 (sorry that the video was recorded by a potato and a lampshade): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XgMEOT1zxQ#t=10m46s

Oh yeah, Luger > Perfect at WM IX via backslide.

Obviously I'm cheating by researching these things.

Weeks before release, Big Show was sent down to Ohio Valley Wrestling, so the game devs swapped his character slot with Steven Richards. All the dialogue and storylines (such as the WM 16 fatal four way) remained untouched.

This made Steven a hilariously influential character in the game, and of course ensured that any player heard that intro music CONSTANTLY.
RTC was the music I used for my build a character in NM. I unironically loved it.

1997 was weird. You had Marty Janetty, Legion of Doom, and the Honkey Tonk Man (he's cool, he's cocky, he's bad) wrestling.

The early days of Stone Cold Steve Austin are curious. Took awhile for him to go over with fans.

No, no, no! He won the rumble, dropped Austin 3:16, and then the very next night there were Stone Cold signs everywhere!!!11one

Lollllllll.

I'm sure in the next historical revision, Vince will be claiming that The Ringmaster gimmick was a calculated test to make Austin push himself. Because of course McMahon always knew his ultimate potential and how to unlock it.

Kerry Von Erich won the NWA World Title with a backslide. Flair wanted to call a move Kerry wouldn't mess up.

Tony Garea often used a flying body press as his finisher.

Sunset Flip? Bob Backlund pinned one of the Wild Samoans with it at 1980's Shea Stadium event. He and Pedro Morales won the tag team titles. Backlund frequently used "scientific pins" to win MSG matches.

Well the early days of late '95 and early/mid '96 are as described, but you weren't still talking about '97, right? I'm not sure there was any point in '97 that he wasn't over big.

It will never not be incredible to me that WWF had a bunch of time to come up with something to call Paul Wight, and they landed on "The Big Show." What on earth.

Wasn't a play on a bunch of guys having "show" as part of their nicknames at the time?

The Show Stopper
The Whole F'in Show

May even be missing one or two.

I guess it could be? That would fit the naming convention for Ultimate Warrior, wanting to one-up the Modern Day Warrior moniker of Kerry Von Erich. But Big Show is a terrible, terrible name, no matter how many years we've had to get used to the fact that it happened.

“Big Show” definitely sucks. Even plain oatmeal “Paul Wight” is better.

I remember Wight saying on Conan O'Brien that his wife would call him "Big Show" derisively when she was pissed at him.

I was going to try to look in on wrestling circa 2000, WWF and WCW alike.

I forced myself through two episodes of WCW, and holy ****. I think I'll have to quickly give up on that part. I didn't realize just how far it had already fallen more than a year before it folded.

Russo era WCW 2000 was on some other ****. It's not even enjoyable as a joke.

These guys from POST Wrestling attempted a podcast of WCW in the 2000's. They could only get through early August before calling it quits. They did come back for the Shane takeover. I enjoyed their take.

Bryan Alvarez and some cronies (not Dave) reviewed every Raw/Nitro from the first Nitro to the last Nitro. ~45m for each week. That series is extremely good. 99/2000 stuff is hilarious to listen to. They went through to the Invasion ppv and gave up shortly after.

I actually went in with some optimism that there was solid "enjoyable as a joke" equity after that one excellent thread we had where people hashed out the worst moments in all of wrestling history and Halpert particularly went to town on late WCW. But actually sitting through it just seemed like...wow. I can imagine podcast recaps like that could still be fun though.

Just ran across a Larry Zbyszko promo circa 1988. He was very, very solid at cutting a promo. I'm not sure I'd seen any from his active wrestling days. Caught me off-guard since I always hated him on commentary, but obviously the two skills don't overlap perfectly.
