I truly hate myself for having ever felt anything but contempt for DX.

That said, I will credit myself for rolling my eyes at the stupid tank sequence when it happened. You know, that one that singlehandedly won the Monday Night Wars or whatever.

Lollll, they absolutely love to call it a tank.

I recently had this recommended to me on YouTube (and had searched and listened to it many years earlier).

Good song (no lyrics),

Spoiler:
It's the theme for WWF Championship Wrestling from ~1982 to 1984

"Hogan, you get your crew, I'll get my crew, we'll rendezvous." -Kevin Nash

Jesus, that's a Notorious BIG lyric. It's so heartwarming that so many people decided that it would be awesome to go ahead and cheer for this 40-year-old playing at being cool and hip.

Curt Hennig as a member of the Wolfpack was always a very obvious misfit.

Seeing Brian Adams tell the crowd to "get a tall glass of shut the hell up" reminds me of a time when The Rock went on Raw and seemed to be trying to coin a catchphrase when he told his opponent to drink "a glass of shut up juice." It was brutally stupid. I just remember him saying it, me watching with some friends, all of us sitting through it silently until my friend piped in, "Rock's getting kinda lame, man."

Needless to say, that did not make it into the long-term catchphrase rotation.

A disproportionate amount of the time, when I pick back up with an episode of Raw in the middle, I discover that I have DOA waiting for me. Clearly a result of me seeing them, sighing heavily, and thinking, "I don't like wrestling THAT ****ing much...I'll watch the rest of this later."

I posted this, and then yesterday blew right past Owen Hart joining the ****ing Nation of Domination without saying anything.

What was the storyline reason why Owen joined ?

If they gave one, they didn't give it on Raw. I actually was always curious about that, given that he got Nation music that opened with him screaming "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, AND IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE!" Then the music was interspersed with him saying stuff like, "I tried to be a nice guy"; "You turned your backs on me!"

Like...I would expect those to be clips from a post-turn promo. But I was a big Owen Hart fan and I do not remember him giving one.

Thankfully, thehistoryofwwe.com has logged everything, so, from a show in Virginia the day after the turn on Raw:

Quote:
Steve Blackman & Farooq defeated WWF IC Champion the Rock & Owen Hart via count-out when Owen and Rocky left ringside; this was a rematch from the earlier match taped for Raw, but only took place so the entrances could be retaped to replace a live interview Owen had done, where he said he joined the Nation because his family deserted him and the fans and office didn't appreciate his talent
I'm still confused as to when this promo happened. The website doesn't indicate it airing on any show. If HHH burying him wasn't bad enough, they also hamstrung his new heel run by never really explaining it.

That doesn’t explain why he chose the nation and why the nation accepted him either . Another moment to lol WWE

Because the Rock gave him the eyebrow?

Someone once told a friend of mine that he looked a bit like Owen Hart, which pissed him because we then called him the Nugget for the next few years.

After a couple weeks of this "DX invades WCW" idiocy, I'm a big fan of Eric Bischoff's response, where he comes out and cuts a promo talking about how weak it is that DX only goes to places where they know he isn't, and then proceeds to challenge Vince McMahon to show up at the upcoming WCW PPV to take him on in a match since they would be in nearby cities. He adds, "If you're counting on seeing this match happen, do not buy this PPV, because he absolutely does not have the guts to show up."

I know that there's an upcoming segment either on Thunder or on the PPV where Eric reads a letter he got from Vince's lawyer and then continues taunting him. On the PPV Bischoff stands in the ring while the ref counts Vince down and declares Bischoff the winner.

Give me these segments over the goddamn DX tank invasion all day long.

Wow, I don't recall any of that.

Vince's re-writing of history is so bad. Monday Night Wars doc is pretty good, but it still doesn't give WCW and Bischoff enough credit. Even when something Eric did well is actually acknowledged, they often act like it was purely one-sided dick measuring and Vince was just a "driven businessman" trying his best.

WCW/NWO was a better product for years and I absolutely loathe how much they push DX as somehow being as influential as the NWO. WWF did plenty of things better in the Attitude era, it's just so annoying when they try to downplay the other side.

Yeah, honestly I took a pass on the Monday Night Wars series because I knew how Vince operates as a distorter of reality. The stupid thing about downplaying WCW and Bischoff is that it downplays their own accomplishment. "We had a formidable, smart, ruthless competitor who built up a prohibitive advantage, and we dug deep and found a way to come back, aided by some self-inflicted wounds by WCW" is both the truth and also a story where WWE comes off better. The public tends to respect the hell out of an epic comeback.

Nothing, but nothing, was more pathetic than those Billionaire Ted sketches in early 1996. Just openly whining that their competitor was insisting on competing with them. Brought to you by the man who took ridiculously ruthless steps to try to drown his competitor in the mid-80s, e.g. threatening that cable companies wouldn't be allowed to carry WrestleMania if they also carried WCW's PPVs.

Exactly! Just a disservice to themselves. The invasion angle was of course another blunder where Vince just couldn't help patting himself on the back into oblivion, this is where I tuned out for over a decade.

There's one, maybe two episodes, where the Monday Night Wars doc actually gives WCW and Bischoff their dues. Unfortunately, that's out of twenty total episodes. Some of the more recent docs have been a bit more well-rounded, but honestly we're not going to get the best coverage from WWE sponsored material until Vince is dead. Beyond The Mat clearly scared the **** out of him. In the meantime, need more third-party stuff like Dark Side of the Ring, but I understand how difficult it is to get access to WWE footage. And man, they have EVERYTHING in that vault; cameras were always rolling. The A&E docs, while heavily supervised by WWE, have still given us some incredible rarely seen footage.

Holy crap, what a shitshow this match was from the 5/11/98 Nitro.

Glacier misses a kick that's supposed to lead to a ref bump. Sick Boy sells it anyway, and sloppily creates a ref bump that Nick Patrick goes along with. Realizing how badly he missed it, Glacier goes for a second kick and all but misses that one. Tony is working another talking point during the spot, and then says, "...meanwhile, what happened here?" Heenan: "Glacier...kicked him in the back of the head." Glacier goes for a third kick, and this one looks non-terrible, but the crowd is very much going WTF at this point.

Saturn runs in and blindsides Glacier with his own kick, Sick Boy covers, Nick Patrick wakes up from the ref bump to count. 1, 2...kickout. Bell incorrectly rings! Announcers are left to cover more weirdness. Tony asks, "Uhh, is the match gonna continue?" Tenay: "Referee says yes!" Glacier mercifully finishes it off.

That was a truly incredible mess.
