Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

I figured thatís where that came from. Razor beat him to win the vacated title after Shawn Michaels did one of his many title forfeitures. They had that battle royal where the final two would go one-on-one, and Martel made the end of that. I found it to be a huge stretch at the time to believe that match had any chance of being anything but a Razor win. Roster had to be incredibly thin for Martel to even get the spot in that match.

Razor Ramon and Rick Martel were co-winners of a 20-man battle royal to determine the new Intercontinental Champion. Other participants were: I.R.S., The 1-2-3 Kid, The M.V.P., Mr. Perfect, Diesel, Adam Bomb, Bam Bam Bigelow, Macho Man Randy Savage, Pierre, Jacques, Giant Gonzalez, Marty Jannetty, Bastion Booger, Owen Hart, Tatanka, Mabel, Bob Backlund and "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka (19:21)
****ing Jimmy Snuka was in a Raw battle royal in 1993? Honestly, any of Diesel, Adam Bomb, Bam Bam, or IRS would have been more credible than Martel. Martel was just such a retread by that point and hadn't really gotten even much of a midcard push in forever.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

You are seriously underestimating Rick Martel. He was great going back to the mid-70s. He's a prototype I/C champion.

Perhaps "The Model" did work for you. But, I thought he pulled that off.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

To be clear, I liked Martel. There were times in his career when it would have made sense for him to be in the IC Title picture. But hotshotting someone into holding that belt is a whole different story. He wasn't even on the SummerSlam card less than two months earlier. It appears that he was in the company throughout the year, but he was just jobbing on the house show circuit, it appears most commonly to 123 Kid, but I even see a job to Virgil in there. WWF had basically decided to stop using him in any credible way, and then suddenly they're putting him in a title match. That's why I wasn't buying it at all.

NOD wasn't a thing until 1996. I know that PG-13 just showed up on their own for a brief stint earlier, but it looks like that was in 1995.

Maybe I went to 2 different Raws . I also remember something with Sid and Shawn . Plus remember them taping 4 shows at once .

The battle royale one was only 2 episodes

Yeah Sid wouldn't have been on a 1993 Raw either. Something with Sid and Shawn in the same segment would have probably been 1995 or 1996.

Sid has been married to the same woman for 38 years.

I did not have that on my bingo card.

They've been married 38 years, probably just on his birthday and their anniversary.

No stabbings, but he has been known to threaten her with a squeegee.

I'm watching a lot of old Prime time Wrestling, Bobby and Gorilla had amazing chemistry. I've found myself cracking regularly at their interactions

I recommend the 22:52 mark of the 6/2/86 episode.

(It's in the middle of a match, not a Heenan/Monsoon exchange.)

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

I greatly enjoyed The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior DVD when it came out. I was generally very much on board with them dedicating an entire project to dragging him hard. I remember joking back in high school to friends that we should go to an event shirtless and paint "CASTRATE THE WARRIOR" on our chests during his brief 1996 WWF run.

That said, it's super annoying how they apparently misrepresented things with regard to Warrior holding Vince up for more money prior to SummerSlam '91. The DVD made it sound like Warrior showed up to the building that day and held the main event hostage with monetary demands. Meltzer, who is imperfect but who I certainly trust more than Vince, says this demand was well before the show.

There's also an obnoxious moment where, after Vince narrates that he agreed to the additional payout to make sure the advertised main event went forward, he says something like, "And by the way, after firing him, I did pay out that full extra amount I agreed to. I would be under absolutely no obligation to have done so, but that's me. I gave my word." Like...dude. #1, don't act like you're anything but a huge pathological liar who has surely screwed many people (many more than just the ones we're aware of) after giving them your word. #2, if you agreed to payment in exchange for performance in the main event, yes the presumption falls to the side of you being legally obligated to pay it. Granted that he could have refused payment, forced Warrior to sue him for breach of contract, then tried to defend himself with a claim that he agreed under duress, but as anyone with a discerning eye for Vince would quickly realize, "I paid him because I'm such a man of integrity" is obviously never the real story.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

lol, Vince. It's crazy how much he lets his own personal pettiness get in the way of serious money and major storylines. The sloppy WCW integration never fails to make me cringe.

The constant whitewashing is so ridiculous when most fans know the true stories.

Okay, they finally just posted 10 new episodes of Wrestling Challenge to continue the end of 1986 and into 1987. This promo is on the 12/6 episode. Strangely enough, also in the promo, he says, "Now I'm going to walk by and slap some babies, maybe...and hit some women..."

The word "women" is bleeped. WTF? You can read his lips, it's plain what he says. That's just such an odd bit of censorship. Slapping babies is okay; it's hitting women that crosses the line. And NBC wants to demonstrate that by censoring the word "women." Alright.

Gorilla (about Kamala): "Last week he really did a number on Spotty, coming off that top turnbuckle. I don't know, we're gonna have to see if we can possibly, maybe get that particular thing barred before he maims somebody."
Heenan: "Why? Ricky the Dragon used to use it."
Gorilla: "The Dragon doesn't weigh 490 lbs."
Heenan: "That's his fault!"

Gold.

This was a jobber match, and Kamala hit another splash off the top to beat jobber Mick Foley. He wasn't going by Jack Foley this time, he was going by...Kurt Hoffman? Strange. He had already been showing up as Jack Foley a bunch.
